(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The Dark Knight has shattered all previous Blu-ray sales records, shifting nearly two million units in its first week of release.

The news comes just one day before director Christopher Nolan will conduct a BD-Live chat, in which 100,000 The Dark Knight Blu-ray Disc owners can participate.

According to Warner Bros., the film has sold over 13.5 Million units worldwide, 1.7 million of which are Blu-ray. In comparison, when "The Matrix" came to DVD it sold 780,000 units in its first week, helping create strong future sales for the format. With Blu-ray, The Dark Knight has more than doubled that.

An interesting statistic to ponder is how many of the 1.7 million Blu-rays sold were to PlayStation 3 owners. Hopefully PS3 sales will ultimately be boosted as the high definition format acquires a stronger footing with the mainstream.

To be honest I'm not surprised at all.
