I know. Whether or not it was purgatory is up to personal interpretation, though. Jack's dad explained that the church was a place that "they had made so they could meet each other on the other side," or something to that effect. That doesn't really imply they were in purgatory, merely that they were dead.

I thought the ending could have been better

what does it matter the whole show was horrible

I'm still in denial that it is over. The show ended almost exactly in reverse of how it started. Very, very sad.
