(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey I was just wondering if there is a difference between college and universities over seas?

I have had numerous people, from other countries, comment and ask me what the difference between a college and university is.

In the United States universities are usually 4 year schools that offer Associates, Bachelors, and Master's degrees in almost ANY field.

Colleges are generally community based, known as Community College, which are generally 2 year schools that offer only Associate's degrees. If a student goes to a community college and complete their associates degree then they get a cheaper tuition rate when they attend a state school.

Me I just finished up my Bachelor's degree in Finance at a 4 year University.

So I just wanted to know...

1.) If my definition is correct and if there is any difference in other countries?
2.) Are your degrees the same? (Associates, Bachelors, and Masters)
3.) Do you guys have Dean's List, if not what do they call it? [Dean's list is when you have over a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)]

Interesting question, BIG gwap. I'm from U.S. but I use the words college and university interchangeably. I graduated from a Big Ten university, but I always referred to myself as a 'college' student not 'university'. I'm tempted to look up the You must login or register to view this content. for these on wikipedia but I'm interested to know if other Americans use these words interchangeably.
