If you want to get into a good college and get a good, high paying job, then yes.

You're grades really don't matter until you are in high school

i wouldn't say they don't matter until your in high school.

If you perform bad your 8th grade year you are going to end up being recommended for low level classes in 9th grade, and by then its usually too late and your entire core curriculum is already chosen (math, sciences, history english).

When I say perform bad I mean borderline fail, not getting all C's.

Your grades all of high school matter, take it from me I slacked all my freshmen and sophomore year not realizing the effect it had on my gpa until my junior year when I started to look for a college. It was never expressed to me how important all of it was until it was too late, now im stuck in a community college next year until I can transfer.

9th grade is when grades start to matter. So work really hard in 8th grade to get into honors classes in 9th grade, because that is when grades start to count.

Well, most dont. But the ones that do, really do.

You need to know what ones matter for university and the ones that dont.

I can tell you, later in life they do matter.

I graduated with a 3.49 Cumulative (all through out your high (all?) school years) GPA and a 4.0 for the 09-10 school year with One year Honors.

Good grades will help get you jobs, into college, and succeed in life. Trust me. Strive to get them, if you got younger siblings, help them get good grades too. For their future.
