So last night as i was trying to sleep i remembered a moment i shined in glory because of my gaming skills & today i thought i would start a thread to hear everyone's "greatest gaming glory moment" stories.
So everyone can have an idea of where i'm getting at & i can have a chance to tell my gaming glory story--I'll post mine
Newyears Eve 2000 i was 10 years old. My aunt and uncle had taken me to this party at their friends' house. A crap load of people where there, and of course i didn't know anyone. Being 10 i got bored of trying to stick close to my aunt or uncle and i wondered off to see if i could find anything to do. I came across an open door leading to a basement full of boys my age all gathered around one of those projection big screen tv's playing video games. Donkey Kong 64 had come out sometime in november 1999 & i had little time to play it seeing how my older brother just got the 64 gaming system a few weeks before new years. (& he hogged it to where i had to sneak in my game time/ here it is 11 years later and i'm still bitching about that)
So i go down and find a place to sit and watch the guys play this game when they reach a boss they can't beat. I watched as they took turns at failing to get past this boss. You all know how feelings and angst rage when you get stuck in a part in a game. They all yelled and screamed at each other that they aren't doing it right or how they would do it better. I waited till i could get the word out "I GET NEXT TRY!!" one kid laughed and insisted that next turn was mine & i thanked him not because i thought he was being nice--that he was an asshole enough to want to see me fail. (i knew better that that, cmon kid.)
Here is my turn, i was so pumped. That feeling you get before you say something rude to the teacher--knowing you're going to get in trouble--but always understanding that a good much needed giggle with a friend will come later. I grab my controller sit down Indian style ( the best no chair gaming position) It was the Third boss in the game i think? The dragon fly looking guy. He spit fire balls-i threw barrels at his chest as he laughed. All the boys watched as i beat it on my first try-one life-one Kong. I could feel my face turning red as a cherry (trying to keep back that victory yelp and laughing uncontrollably out of excitement) the room was almost silent when i tried passing the controller to the next person--he didn't take it right away--he finally took the controller, i went back to my place in the back of the room to resume watching them play. When everyone's attention was back on the tv, i let my smile crack. I love remembering this moment...it felt awesome.
