If fire needs oxygen to burn, how does the sun burn if there is no oxygen in space?

The sun "burns" by fusing hydrogen into helium. It doesn't need any air for it, only the high pressures and high temperatures. It's called thermonuclear reaction and it releases huge amounts of energy, which gets to us as light and heat.
