All of these are my personal opinions. I’ve spent much more time on Modern Warfare then World at War so I have some bias and I’m not as knowledgeable about WaW but I’ll write this to the best of my abilities. Please thank the thread it took me about an hour and a half to write this.

Call of Duty World at War gets my vote

Maps
The maps in both each have their pros and cons, but COD4 has my vote for this. They are smaller and more manageable that let you have good sightlines for sniping, good close encounters, and also hold that medium range as well. COD4 maps just seem more memorable too. Everything in WaW looks to similar while no 2 maps in Modern Warfare look alike. Lastly COD4 was easier to glitch :p

Guns

Snipers/ Bolt Action Rifles
No question about it, COD4 offers more variety and no-scoping is much better. COD4 sniping by far.

Assault Rifles/ Rifles
Easy pick again, COD4 has better variations of guns again. The M4, M16, and the G36C were all great guns compared to what, the STG?

Sub-Machine Guns
COD4 all the way. P90, MP5, and AK74-U are some of my favorites in the game, and WaW only has 4 which aren’t bad, but not amazing. Yes the PPSh-41 is pretty cool and shoots very fast with virtually no recoil, but it doesn’t match the number of good COD4 Subs.

Light Machine Guns
I’m not a big LMG guy, I think most people use them for spray and pray, but I gotta go with WaW on this one. Don’t know much about either but the fact you can mount on WaW is appealing.

Shotguns
COD4 due to the fact that the semi-auto on that has 4 shots unlike the double-barrel on World at War.

Perks
Mostly the same perks but World at War threw in some cool new ones, even though I’m still bummed that climbing trees was taken out, but flamethrower makes up for it.

Grenades
Call of Duty WaW includes a sticky grenade which throws me over the edge, also a moltav cocktail which is somewhat pointless but cool.

Special Grenades
Yes they are essentially the same in both games but stun overpowers Tabun Gas and Signal Flare is a little worse than a flashbang.

Competition
In Call of Duty 4, clans were more present and were more dominant. Clan battles were more present and these clans gave the game a more difficult edge requiring more strategy.

Game Modes
CO WaW includes a couple more game modes than 4, but when you don’t put in Team Tactical it makes me mad. That was probably the most fun game mode and they took it out. However, they added Capture the Flag in WaW. But I like Team Tactical better than Capture the Flag so COD4 once again gets my vote.

Campaign
I don’t care much about campaign but I do think that WaW did a nice job on it. Modern Warfare was better however in my opinion. The plane mission was much better and the guns on 4 were the best in the series.

Extra
While COD4 only has Mile High Club, World at War comes with many extras. WaW comes with CoOp, vehicles, and Nazi Zombies possibly the best part of the game.

Overall
COD4 would get my overall vote, but the CO WaW extras are just so much fun. Most of my votes in here go to COD4 but it’s closer than it appears.

I think they're both good compared but COD 4 is cooler. But COD 5 more realistic and more bloody...
