(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Shocking racial insensitivity in videogames both began and hit its very peak at the same time with the release of Custer's Revenge for the Atari 2600. You know, that game with the priapic general negotiating a field of raining arrows to repeatedly rape a naked Indian maiden tied to a post. Really, that's pretty damn hard to top. So this time, we're going to look at sheer quantity of racial caricatures rather than simple ability to offend.

5. Spanish for Everyone
System: DS | Release Date: 2007 | Publisher: Activision

Every bit as important as educating children in other languages is teaching them about other cultures, and it just makes sense to do both at the same time. And by "teach children about other cultures," we mean, "instill in them a deep and abiding fear of foreigners." Spanish for Everyone gets off to a great start, with your Hispanic friend accidentally stealing your DS and taking off in a shady-looking car that's being chased across the border by police cars. Thankfully, a sultry, innuendo-spouting seƱorita will give you a lift as far as Tijuana, and along the way she "can teach you many things, and Spanish is definitely one of them." Edutainment is awesome!

It only gets weirder from there. Your second lesson is taught by a talking bull, who eventually departs to "fight in the coliseum of man against the evil red devil." Followed by a trip to a ramshackle town full of foreboding music, where you are next aided by an "exporter" who has business with the people who own the cop-chased car from the intro. When you finally catch the kid who took your DS, he apologizes for the misunderstanding and happily gives it back...but meanwhile your exporter friend has left you with a mysterious package and a plane ticket to France. Hm.

It's far and away the least offensive game in our lineup, but something about all that definitely gives us the willies.

4. Punch-Out!!, Super Punch-Out!!, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
System: NES | Release Date:1987 | Publisher: Nintendo

In Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Great White Hope Little Mac (or the nameless, wire-framed Great Green Hope in the arcade versions) and his numinous black trainer tour the world to take on ethnic stereotypes named after their native foodstuffs. Italian pugilist Pizza Pasta and Soviet roughneck Vodka Drunkenski (who later had his name changed to the off-brand Soda Popinski to reflect the fact that the USSR was too communist for Coke's imperialist fifth column) survived Nintendo's censors. Greasy Pork Sandwich Served in a Dirty Ashtray (who became Von Kaiser) didn't. We're making that last one up, but just barely.

3. Kung Fu Chaos
System: Xbox | Release Date: 2003 | Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios

You must login or register to view this content.

The dismal failures of Fuzion Frenzy and Whacked! didn't deter Microsoft from foolishly attempting an unprecedented third family-friendly party game for the original Xbox. That doomed title, Just Add Monsters' Kung Fu Chaos, easily ranks as one of gaming's most racially insensitive titles...and a pretty lousy Smash Bros. clone, to boot. Perhaps the game was intended as a rib-tickling send-up of classic martial-arts flicks, but its hideously malformed cast of straight-up stereotypes features seven slant-eyed, bucktoothed Asians (inappropriately voiced with thick, awkward accents that routinely mix up their L and R sounds). Funny? It's about as hilarious (and tasteful) as Mickey Rooney's turn as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but the developers attempt to deflect allegations of racism by being equal-opportunity offenders: You can giggle at the painfully obvious humor behind trigger-happy blaxploitation starlet Lucy Cannon, blonde ditz Candi Roll, or the obese Mexican luchador Captain Won Ton. It's OK if nobody has to feel left out, right?

2. Freaky Flyers
System: PlayStation 2 | Release Date: 2003 | Publisher: Midway

Jeremy Dunham, IGN critic and presumed connoisseur of knock-knock-joke collections, called Freaky Flyers "the funniest videogame in years." The game's cast, comprised of -- in Dunham's opinion -- the "funniest damn characters we've seen in eons," includes "Sheik Abdul, an oil billionaire from the East that loves to race on his flying carpet." Which finally tops that Sumerian cuneiform tablet that told a joke about an elephant that asks a camel why its breasts are on its back (the camel replies by asking the elephant why its penis is on its face) for pure wit. Freaky Flyers' instruction manual states: "The oil gazillionaire (depending on today's price of oil), is in the race to get away from his enormous harem that nags and henpecks him at every turn. His only reprieve is his best friend, Humpy the Camel." Never mind that this polygamist from "the East" sounds more like an Indian Sikh than an Arab when he talks. And forget about his Sikh turban. The fool rides a flying carpet, and if that isn't sidesplitting, then Stevie Wonder has stopped instructing driving school. Get it? Stevie Wonder is a musician.

Other cut-ups include the bug-eyed, bucktoothed, Engrish-sputtering Sammy Wasabi, who pilots the Kamikaze Express; Island Jack, a laid-back Rastafarian who, according to the manual, rocks "some groovy tunes" (presumably Stevie Wonder's "Boogie On Reggae Woman"); and Aussie Mick Bungadoo, known for boxing kangaroos and running a roadkill BBQ.

1. Homie Rollerz
System: DS | Release Date: 2008 | Publisher: Destineer

Bad as any of the above may be, Homie Rollerz takes the taco. Those little plastic Homie figures you find in supermarket vending machines aren't exactly paragons of racial sensitivity, but at least they don't freaking talk.

Really, the most amazing thing about Homie Rollerz is that if there were so much as a hint of a nipple in the game, it would've garnered an M rating. Portraying brown people as a bunch of dopey, drawling criminals that drive around in giant, wheeled burritos? That gets itself an E for Ev

PS3 Racist Games

Critics praised Sony's PlayStation 3 game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for its action segments, never bringing ethnicity into the equation. Zero Punctuation's Yahtzee, on the other hand, criticized it, saying this is a game where "a waspish manly man runs around slaughtering everyone who had the poor judgment to not be born white."

It's several months from release, and Capcom's survival horror romp, Resident Evil 5 has already stirred controversy. When its teaser trailer debuted last year, the website Black Looks attacked the game for encouraging hatred against Africans. The gaming community quickly responded.

A 1up.com blogger wrote an entry on "unchecked institutionalized racism" in Sony's PSP game LocoRoco. The authors says the game draws a disturbing parallel between the enemies, the Moja, and blackface.

Custer's Revenge - Mystique
Custer's Revenge for the Atari 2600 comes under fire as being racist, thanks to controversial subject matter in which the player, as General Custer, dodges arrows en route to have his way with a buxom Native American woman.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Rockstar

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto franchise, which is no stranger to controversy, caused a stir in New York City, when the Haitian Centers Council and Haitian Americans for Human Rights bashed Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for encouraging players to slaughter Haitians. Despite Rockstar defending its product, the controversy led to a protest at New York's City Hall, and the game popping up on the CBS News segment, "Shame On You".

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin - Eidos

Eidos came under fire for Hitman 2, when Sikhs called the game racist for allowing players to slaughter characters wearing turbans inside of a gurdwara, a Sikh temple. To make amends, Eidos agreed to eliminate the controversial content from the, at the time, unreleased GameCube version.

Shadow Warrior - 3D Realms

From the creators of the trash-talking, gun-toting Duke Nukem comes Shadow Warrior, a tongue-in-cheek tale about master ninja Lo Wang and his fight to save Japan. The first-person shooter's attempts at humor captured the attention of a University of British Columbia researcher who says the game was "a mix and match grab bag of Asian stereotypes that are often nonsensical," noting that the lead character (who goes by a Chinese name) yells "just like Hiroshima!" as he fires on his enemies.

Homie Rollerz - Destineer(as the game from above[/U])

The DS gaming starring the 25-cent toys that you can buy from a gumball machine outside Wal-Mart is rife with stereotypes. For creator David Gonzales, the cast of Homies were inspired by his friends (and now translated into this kart racing game). For this PO'd IGN reader the racer is a "racist piece of crap" and says that, "as a Mexican I would like to apologize for this game."

Are games these days acuatlly promoting rascism for our youth.you decide.
