Kinect fails to impress at Hong Kong
3rd August 2010
Kinect, yet again, has failed to impress audiences when it was demonstrated at a Hong Kong animation festival. The on-screen animation froze, while the two players were still running.
Models Jessica C and Chrissie Chau (both from Hong Kong) were on stage in front of a large screen trying to demonstrate Kinect's forthcoming game, Kinect Sports, when their characters froze half way through a track race whilst Jessica and Chrissie kept running. Eventually, both characters came back to life and were dragged to the line in a less than convincing demonstration.
Microsoft have since suggested reasons why this may have happened, such as the camera flashes and the two models being too close together. These were not reasons for failure, but more reasons why Kinect may not be what everyone wants it to live up to.
Imagine, if for some reason you were compelled to buy Kinect, you were playing and you stopped running, stopped punching, stopped jumping - whatever your avatar is supposed to do. Would you really pay all the money for that disappointment?
Sure, it could be the camera flashes or the models were too close together; however, years of research should have highlighted these problems and had them fixed before the demonstration period.
