There are many different types of gamers around the world, and this guide is to show you what type of gamer you are.

Lets just break it down to two main categories, each with many sub-categories:

With no particular favourite in sight, the All-rounder just loves gaming in general. Willing to try anything new and exciting regardless of genre, these guys are your typical modern videogamer - easy going, carefree and love to dabble in a bit of co-op.

While being mostly nocturnal due to little inconveniences such as work and kids, the All-rounder will try and fit a gaming session in whenever they can.




Breed: Duty Droid

The Duty Droid is a common breed of gamer in this day and age thanks mainly to the sea of first person shooters flooding today's gaming landscape. Activision's popular Call of Duty franchise is generally where they spend the majority of their gaming moments, preying on the weak who happen to stumble into a seemingly friendly free-for-all match.

Duty Droids tend to ignore the single player component of an FPS, instead turning their attention almost exclusively toward increasing their multiplayer prowess. They long for the day when Bobby Kotick introduces his Call of Duty pay-to-play/MMO structure. God help us!




Breed: Fanboi

Here we have one of the most passionate breeds of gamer, the Fanboi. Feeling the need to defend their purchase to the bitter end, the Fanboi sticks by their console of choice through thick and thin, despite any shortcomings the device might have.

Whether you are a Nintendo Nerd, a Sony Saint or and Xbot, please, continue your forum trolling with you head held high and the notion you own the BEST console available today; the internet would not be the same without you.





Breed: Femme-fatale

Believe it or not, but there is a particular breed of gamer that is exclusively female, and can dance with the hardest of hardcore. These foxy ladies are classed as the Femme-fatale, and boy, you do not want to get on their bad side.

Playing a range of genres from music games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, all the way up to frantic first person shooters, come across one of these broads and you'd better hope to hold your own, otherwise they will hang you out to dry, after drowning you in a torrent of red.

Age Group: 7 - 18

Growing up during Sony's videogame renaissance, this particular breed considers the PSone the forefather of modern gaming. With little to no knowledge of the 8/16-bit wars of the early eighties and nineties, the PlayStation Pubescent takes many modern gaming norms for granted. CD-based optical media, hard drives and online multiplayer seem like luxuries to most, but the value of these technological improvements is lost on the Pubescent, who thinks that "blowing into a cartridge" to make it work is some kind of strange sexual fetish. Bless.





Breed: WoW Whore

Giving dedication a new meaning, WoW Whores have settled on their chosen game, and aren't going anywhere soon. Many MMOs have come to try and carve themselves a slice of Blizzard's pie, but all have succumbed to the might of World of Warcraft.

WoW Whores share many attributes - malnutrition, unemployment and being single (unless partnered up to a fellow WoW Whore) - all due to WoW's deadly, addictive nature. Despite the negatives, many WoW Whores will tell you there is nothing more exciting than questing with your guild, looting and PvPing that loser who has been following you around for three hours and stealing his enchanted armour. Fair enough. Each to their own, I guess.

Breed: iPhoney

Many believe the iPhoney not to be a true breed of gamer, instead having latched on to the recent introduction of mobile gaming and 'i products'. Catching in a quick game of Angry Birds or Flight Control while waiting for the train or sitting in the dentist's chair, iPhoneys love the new-fangled tilt controls and touch screens. Just don't tell them they're not part of the gamersphere, those briefcases sure do pack a punch!

Because there are sometimes more important things in life apart from gaming (pfftt, whatever), we have the Part-timer breed. Consisting mainly of individuals who think videogames are for nerds or the un-employed, Part-timers don't mind a gaming session here and there, but prefer to keep it on the down low.

Many Part-timers nurture a guilty pleasure of a random game of Madden, Street Fighter or Call of Duty, but because of their misinformed perception of gamers in general, videogames will not enjoy a larger role in their lives.



Breed: Pinball Wizard

Platform of Choice: Pinball machine, pen & paper adventure

Posing as the dignified elders of our elegant hobby, the Pinball Wizards are the grandfathers of the gaming world. Starting out playing pinball machines and Pac-Man at their local corner store, Pinball Wizards try gracefully to adapt to modern videogame consoles, but still prefer the good ol' days of popping quarters into Galaga, and playing D'n' in their family basement.

Age Group: 6 - 65+

Nintendo's Wii introduced a whole slew of the world's populace to videogames with its release in 2006, creating one of the more recent breeds of gamer, the Wiitard. With motion controls and simple pick-up-and-play titles such as WiiSports, the Wii was an instant hit and people young and old flocked to see what all this videogame fuss was about.

If you love flicking on Wii Play every couple of years, this is your category. If you enjoy toning your physique with Wii Fit, you've found your spot. Congratulations, you are a gamer too. Just don't expect a warm welcome from the rest of the gaming community. Just saying...
