(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I believe the whole arguement is overrated.

Marijuana been proved to help treat some diseases that are otherwise unbearable (Keep in mind I said "treat", not cure. By that I mean stuff like dealing with pain from arthritis and glaucoma patients and induce hunger for chemo therapy cancer patients who otherwise can't eat).

1 acre of hemp, a product of the marijuana plant, produces 4x as much oxygen and paper as 1 acre of timber. Keep in mind a Marijuana plant is on average 4-10 feet tall depending on strain, whereas a timber tree is, what 40-50+ feet?

Legalizing marijuana and regulating it's distribution like tobacco and alcohol would take a majority of funding away from gangs. Not to mention the fact that a store clerk asks for I.D., whereas a Crip/Blood could care less.

Fact: It's physically impossible to overdose or become addicted to marijuana. A mental addiction is possible, but if you smoke weed for a week and then suddenly stop, your body won't have withdrawals or side effects like you would by smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol or doing "hard" drugs (cocaine, heroin, meth, etc.) Over 200,000 people a year die from alcohol related deaths and 450,000 from tobacco related products or second-hand smoke.

Not moving on to the reason WHY marijuana illegal, for anyone who doesn't know. In the early 1900's, hemp was poised to replaced timber as a major source of raw material for paper due to the fact it's much more space efficient. William Randolph Hearst, the guy who started "The New Yorker", had money invested in the timber industry. Obviously, he didn't like this and ran a smear campaign against marijuana to make it illegal, and using his political connections and rather large wallet, he was successful. The movie "Reefer Madness" is a political propoganda film funded by him and his cause and shows what kind of stuff he was putting out to convince people marijuana was bad.

Here is the video, it is long but watch it and you'll be amazed by how stupid it is.

That is the real reason marijuana is illegal. For all of you that are still blind, look at this video stating some more facts.

Tell me now, why you think marijuana should be illegal.

Kill the ignorance people. Open your eyes.

I think they should legalize it. There is no reason not to, there are so many benefits if they do. They could tax it and give the money to help schools.

Difficult question you have there. Firstly, you have to think what are the main reasons why your country had to legalize it. Secondly, you have to think of, is, if the Legalization of Marijuana had negative effects in the future, what will happen to your country and will it affect many people?

I'll pick no because I am not sure about it.

btw, I didn't read the OP's post. I just answered the OP's question.

I don't smoke weed, but I think it should be legalised. All logical arguments point towards its legalisation. As the OP stated, it was originally illegalised because it posed an economic threat, not a health one. I'll break down the other major reasons for anyone who is currently unaware.

An increasingly prevalent reason is the benefits to the medical industry. Marijuana helps to stimulate appetite and relieve nausea in cancer and AIDS patients. In all countries except Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Israel and 14 states of the United States, people with illnesses of this magnitude are denied marijuana.

People deserve the right to decide whether or not they should use marijuana. It is far less dangerous to the user than some drugs which are legal, such as alcohol and tobacco. The government shouldn't tell people what to do as long as it doesn't cause them to harm themselves or others.

Billions of dollars are spent every year on the "War on Drugs". We currently pay taxes to fund this and the cost of imprisoning drugs suppliers. If marijuana were legal, our tax money could be used to fund effective drug education programs and other important causes.

Finally, there is no evidence to support the case that prohibition (a law forbidding the sale of something) works. Education and treatment are better ways to address the drug problem.

Legalize it! Personally I don't smoke it, but we can tax the **** out of it. It's win win. Smokers are allowed to smoke their shit and the government makes some money in this recession. Sure it's not good for you, but neither is alcohol. Everything is okay in moderation.
