(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In the US we're celebrating a holiday which we call Thanksgiving. The history behind it is not really that important for the purposes of this thread. What is important about this holiday (related to this thread) is the giving thanks for all that we have.

NextGenUpdate receives a lot in donations. I've donated well over $100 to it myself. We donate to this site for a variety of reasons. We should all take the same dedicate and love we have for NGU and share a small portion of it to those less fortunate.

Some statistics to help put it in perspective:

  • 80% of the world (5.15 billion humans) lives on less than $10.00 per day and almost 50% (3.14 Billion) live on less than $2.50 per day
  • 27%-28% of all children in developing countries are underweight and/or stunted.
  • Of the 2.2 billion children in the world, 1 billion live in poverty
  • 10.6 million children in the world don't live to their 5th birthday, each year.
  • Almost 1 billion people entered the 21st century unable to read or even sign their own name.
  • Almost half of all people in developing countries are suffering, at any given time, with health issues caused by poor public sanitation and the unavailability of clean water.
  • 1.6 billion people live without electricity.

So the question is, what can you do? Well you can get involved in the many organizations that offer relief and support to these folks.

There are tons of other charities, I just listed a few that come to mind. Get involved. Help out those less fortunate.

Edit - Users of NGU so far have donated $286 to the above charities. Combined with my $100 to St. Jude, we're at $384 total!

Thanks!!

Its not the country we come from.

AND Its the goverments fault for all these huge payrises and cuts.

If i was in the goverment trust me i would be happy to give the people the money NOT their goverment.

I mean look near 2 billion pounds or more was givin to a charity and **** all happened.

I think either the goverment is taking the money or something fishy is going on.

Oh and how did u get demoted :(

that is class A socialism
Socialism is a Theory a dream govenment
If you distribute the wealth over the citizen more then likely other people will not work and get income thus no money for the govenment, so the govenment would crash and burn

First off, I want to thank all you guys for donating. I just posted a few sites to get involved. You can find a charity of your choice and give them a little bit. Obviously every bit counts!

While there are a few things that we can get off topic on... I'm simply asserting we do a little bit and give to those who need it. There are issues with all charitable organizations and sometimes the money doesn't DIRECTLY go to the people. I mean your $5 or $10 might reach ONE person, but it will help.

Governments grossly mismanage money. Charities usually don't.

I retired from admin because I could no longer offer value to NGU.

Thanksgiving is probably not bigger than Christmas. This post really isn't about the holiday itself, but about giving back to people. :y:

Meh, I am thankful for all that I have, but it all comes from the hard work of my parents. My mom graduated from Franklin High School(Jive you should come see it) it's one of the most ghetto schools in the city. She was one of the only white people in her classes. She graduated, went to college and now works for the county making a good amount(we're middle class). I know many minorities who have done similar to what my mom did. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but everyone is given the same opportunities. Everyone is capable of going to school for free here in the U.S. but many people take that for granted and don't fully appreciate it, thus resulting in making super minimum wage.

This, of course, is different for immigrants. But how I see it, if you were born and raised in the U.S., school is mandatory and free, hardwork and determination can get you out of the hood/ghetto.

It is unfortunate that we have people making so little, but it's a prime example of good life choices.

tl;dr , Go to school and work hard.

No, Christmas is pretty much THE biggest. Thanksgiving is like in the top 3 through, it's a time for family and fun.

I agree with you on this. Work hard to advance yourself. However this isn't just about American underprivileged or impoverished population. This is about ALL of the world man. Clearly in America you have the opportunity to pull yourself to any level of success. What about a child in a country like Africa that has no opportunity? Obbviously rhetorical question, but hopefully you see my point.

I definitely agree with that, I thought you were just talking about the U.S. We are really privileged here in the U.S., other countries(Africa, Iraq etc.) are just born into literally nothing but disease, famine and starvation.
