After several denial of service (DOS) attacks hit it over the weekend, WikiLeaks is now being hosted by Amazon servers in the US and Ireland.

The move by Wikileaks, the organisation that has provided a collection of more than 250,000 State Department diplomatic cables to several newspapers, came after a series of DOS attacks, said Mikko Hypponen, the chief research officer at Finnish antivirus firm F-Secure.

"Wikileaks changed its hosting two times in the last 12 hours," said Hypponen in an interview on Monday. "[WikiLeaks] changed from the French host that it's used for some time to Amazon's cloud ... and one of those IP adresses is in the US."

Traces of WikiLeaks.org by our sister title in the US, Computerworld showed that WikiLeaks' URL resolved to at least two Amazon-owned addresses, one in Ireland and the other in Seattle, Washington.

According to Hypponen, a hacker who goes by the nickname "The Jester" - in leetspeak, it's "th3j35t3r" - has claimed responsibility for the attacks against WikiLeaks. In several Twitter messages, Jester said he launched the attacks "for [Wikileaks] attempting to endanger the lives of our troops, 'other assets' & foreign relations."

Jester is a likely candidate, said Hypponen. "He took responsibility, and more importantly, he has demonstrated the capability. He also seems to have a motive."

The hacker, who Hypponen believes is in Russia based on his Hotmail email address, has boasted before of denial of service attacks against Islamic jihadist websites.

In a July 2010 interview with the UK-based Ethical Hack3r site, Jester has claimed he is "ex-mil", or ex-military, and said his self-set mission is "to cause disruption to the online efforts of jihadists on the internet".

Amazon did not immediately reply for a request for comment about its servers hosting Wikileaks.

Earlier this year, US authorities criticised Wikileaks for releasing a cache of military documents relating to the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Yesterday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned Wikileaks for releasing the diplomatic cables.

"The United States strongly condemns the illegal disclosure of classified information," Clinton said in a Monday news conference. "It puts people's lives in danger, threatens our national security, and undermines our efforts to work with other countries to solve shared problems."

She also implicitly threatened Wikileaks. "I want you to know that we are taking aggressive steps to hold responsible those who stole this information," she said. "I have directed that specific actions be taken at the State Department, in addition to new security safeguards at the Department of Defense and elsewhere to protect State Department information so that this kind of breach cannot and does not ever happen again."

Personally I feel that this website "WikiLeaks" is a serious threat to more then just the United States. I mean it's only a matter of time before other countries are targeted.

Now regarding the article I feel that "The Jester" is on the right track.. Hell if I knew a little bit more about how to hack properly, and wasn't still learning I'd get involved!

So how do you feel about WikiLeaks? & About the DOS attack on the site?

spending vbux, offer me..
I think its really difficult to get the balance right between letting the public know everything thats done for the good of the nation and letting them know EVERYTHING that is done

the government is bound to do things that a certain group wont like and they will kick off about it... it was fine until the documents were leaked as what people dont know doesnt hurt them but at the same time people say they have the right to know, which yes they do...

its a hard one to call but overall I do agree with them being public but not in such a way as wikileaks does it

Pure Decimation
I don't do requests
I'm thinking the government should take a page from NGU's book. Leaking should be a perma-ban Happy.

Yeaa wiki leaks is good because we get some news but putting stuff up like that goverment shooting in the army is slighty too far, they need to read over what there putting on the web, they could put up somthing and you say look and you might even get in jail at some situations, just chill wikileaks, you aint better because you put ur arses in a whole load of shit.

~~That's what my main point was.. Honestly the American government has more technology then they care to admit. And they use that to their advantage. For example that smart-gun someone posted about a day ago, I bet you they have had that gun or at-least 5-20 years!

~~Like Steven Hawkin said, If we make contact chances are they will enslave us! But I would like to know about those Intergalactic Illegal Aliens :?D

I dont see why WikiLeaks is being DDOS'd. The documents should be free and for everyone to see. If it's a war, everyone should what is happening and the Government shouldnt keep stuff hidden.

~~True! Very true! I felt the same way growing up, still do slightly. It's just not the United States that is at risk, it's all of the allies.
