Tapout fans remember Charles Lewis Jr., better known to MMA fans as “Mask,” was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning in Newport Beach, Calif.

Lewis was the founder of Tapout Clothing, Inc., and the face of its popular reality show on cable channel Versus. Several sources within the company confirmed his passing.

At 12:57 a.m., a Newport Beach Police cruiser spotted Lewis’ red Ferrari and a white Porsche driving out of control on the southbound side of Jamboree Road, according to Lt. Jim Amormino, a public information officer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Dept.

The Ferrari then struck the curb and hit a street light, tearing the car in half. After coming to a brief stop, the Porsche fled the scene.

An unnamed female passenger was ejected from Lewis’ car in the crash. Newport Beach paramedics pronounced Lewis dead at the scene.

Newport Beach officers later spotted the Porsche and stopped its passengers, a male and female, who were seen walking away from the vehicle.

Upon further investigation officers determined that the male, Jeffrey David Kirby, a 51-year-old resident of Costa Mesa, Calif., was the driver of the vehicle.

Kirby was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and taken to the Newport Beach Police Department. The female passenger, Lynn Marie Nabozny, a 32-year-old resident of Newport Beach, was arrested for public intoxication and released Wednesday morning.

Kirby’s bail is set at $1 million. The results of a blood alcohol test administered at the jail are forthcoming. No further motive for the accident is known at this time, according to Amormino

Sure I've got dirt. I know it sucks that he died. But I'm basing my opinion on how ridiculous people are taking this. People praise this guy for his lifestyle, which everytime I've seen him is just being stupid and partying. I guarantee you he was drunk, and so was his passenger and the other guy/passenger as well. I have no sympathy for people like this anymore. That's because I don't have to, people who buy his shit or blindly support him because they like the word tapout on random shirts or shorts.

And Matt I only said that because I know you feel bad about him dying. You also told us not to judge him, well why not? He set a great example for us all in crashing and dying like a moron.

I understand people make mistakes, I've made them and so have you. But I'm about to sit here and listen to everyone say this is such a horrible travesty that "mask" died. And the huge funeral that Dana White will pay for and all sorts of stupid fans showing up. You can sit there and tell me to take a step back and realise that this guy died and it's so sad. But guess what. People die every day from stupid actions like he did, and you NEVER see this much coverage on it. The only reason you know is because he was the lowest form of celebrity, just enough so that fans who wear shirts with tapout on them will start crying. Not to mention the fact that you know about this because of the car involved. I don't cry for people who do stupid things like this, and I know people will but they should learn from instead. So don't get on my ass because I speak honestly about this situation.

So let's say one of your best friends or family members gets drunk, high, whatever, gets in a car and dies. You don't give a shit about them? Sure I've never met this guy, never would have, but who cares? He was still a person and you basically kept your argument going that you think people should be executed for making a mistake, kill all wrong do-ers, let them die. That's ****ed up and a really stupid way to look at life.

I never said that people should be excuted, so I don't know why your even saying that.

My point is this. It's this guys fault for driving drunk and crashing. He did it and now everyones going to have this memory of him as almost martyr-like. Dana White should come right out on tv and say, "well, Mask killed himself like an idiot. Anyways..."

His family and everyone can feel sorry, not me.

And yes Matt, I would give a shit about a family member dying by doing something stupid and crashing, i.e. my brother(1981-2000). But I talk a lot of shit about how stupid he was, and I would do the same for anyone who got themself killed while drinking and driving. I'm still going to feel bad, that's family come on. But Mask? Mask who made a shirt that said tapout? Why does he matter?

Just give it a rest matt, seriously. This shit does not matter one bit.

I think it matters because tapout is what gave the UFC and WEC the push both franchises needed to become what they are today.
I like the WEC more than UFC and tapout sponsors UFC more, but I don't care because they're both cool.

I just think that your view on this is completely stupid.

My view isn't supposed to be taken as stupid or smart or anything like that. It's just the truth. I can spew my opinion out if I want to regardless of the fact that saps on the UFC bandwagon won't like it.

OG You are very much so entitled to your opinion. But face the facts. It has not came out that he was drunk. But was traveling at a high rate of speed. Yes it is tragic that he died. Will I cry and weep about it? NO! My point is that this man died for stupid reasons and I dont wish that on anyone for any stupid reason. Except Pedofiles, murder's or rape. Other than that people make mistakes and really if they die making a mistake let it be a leason learned yes. But say it serves him right and thats what he gets. Not the way I see it. Really I did not try to get a bigger argument going.I was simply making my opinion heard. Yes if he was drinking he should have thought about it just a lil more. Dont really have much else to say about this other than rest in peace Mask many people will miss you. And no I dont buy tapout. I am very into ufc but not so much into tapout. Yeah tapout kinda goes along with ufc in its own little way.But really I really like the sport rather than a clothing line. I didnt really care for mask but thats my opinion. Not saying that I didnt like him I just didnt ever watch anything because of him or buy anything because of him. But he was still a human being and will hopefully now live a better life. To all his family I feel for your pain!!

And OG I would not call what I have said "getting on your ass". I just think you should be a little more less aggressive. Noone attacked you but you seemed to have really gotten mad because you didnt like the guy or whatever. I just thought you were just a little crude about the loss of a life. My opinion ofcoarse. Anyways Ill be done with this topic just so we dont have to argue anymore over some millionaire. LoL If you want to reply feel free but I wont reply back. Weve defanantly took it far enough!!! Have a great weekend all!!!

He kind of said my point for me again...

I didn't hate "mask". I just don't think this deserves such a huge response as far as people dying goes. Time to move on. I'm done.
