Tapout fans remember Charles Lewis Jr., better known to MMA fans as “Mask,” was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning in Newport Beach, Calif.

Lewis was the founder of Tapout Clothing, Inc., and the face of its popular reality show on cable channel Versus. Several sources within the company confirmed his passing.

At 12:57 a.m., a Newport Beach Police cruiser spotted Lewis’ red Ferrari and a white Porsche driving out of control on the southbound side of Jamboree Road, according to Lt. Jim Amormino, a public information officer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Dept.

The Ferrari then struck the curb and hit a street light, tearing the car in half. After coming to a brief stop, the Porsche fled the scene.

An unnamed female passenger was ejected from Lewis’ car in the crash. Newport Beach paramedics pronounced Lewis dead at the scene.

Newport Beach officers later spotted the Porsche and stopped its passengers, a male and female, who were seen walking away from the vehicle.

Upon further investigation officers determined that the male, Jeffrey David Kirby, a 51-year-old resident of Costa Mesa, Calif., was the driver of the vehicle.

Kirby was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and taken to the Newport Beach Police Department. The female passenger, Lynn Marie Nabozny, a 32-year-old resident of Newport Beach, was arrested for public intoxication and released Wednesday morning.

Kirby’s bail is set at $1 million. The results of a blood alcohol test administered at the jail are forthcoming. No further motive for the accident is known at this time, according to Amormino

I really hope no one feels sorry for this idiot. He was drunk, racing his buddy and crashed like an idiot. He also injured a female passenger who was thrown from the vehicle. She's listed in critical condition.

This should serve as a lesson to people. Don't think you can get away with driving around drunk and racing people just because your a nerd with paint on your face who made some shirts with a logo on them. You can die or get in trouble just as easily.

His little buddy and the buddy's female passenger was found in theyre porsche on a side street in the area, trying to get away. He was charged with reckless driving and DUI. Why would they try to run if they were innocent? I don't think so, they're responsible just as well.

I know people are going to make a huge deal about the fact that this idiot killed himself and play it off like it was a simple mistake. That just goes to show you than when idiots care for other idiots you get ridiculous stories making it seem like this is such a horrible event. He drank, he drove, he raced his friend, he crashed and now he's dead. Too bad so sad. Let's hear about some real news because this shouldn't matter ONE bit.

And anyone that try's to justify this as a simple mistake, or stand up for this guy, well your just as stupid as he is. You should go drive drunk and race so you die as well and we all have one less idiot on the planet.

Whatever Matt you'll just put your blinders on to any issue that involves MMA or the UFC or TapOut because you do a little bit of training. All you see in this is the fact that this guy helped create TapOut. You don't pay attention to how idiotic he or his friend was at all. Just because your into the UFC/TapOut fad doesn't mean this guy wasn't wrong OR that anyone who thinks he was stupid is wrong..

OG . Personally think you need to take a step back and look at yourself before saying such crude things. This man lost his life for a very stupid reason. I have yet to see where it says he was drunk but ok lets say he was. Did he really deserve to die because he was drinking and driving? Come on man seriously. You seem like you think you are Mr. Perfect and anyone who messes up should be executed. I am sure you have dirt on you now and if you dont you will one day. And maybe then you will not be so harsh on peoples mistakes. If he was drunk I feel he should have been punished but in no way should he have lost his life for it. Ill give you a perfect example, When I was 18 I was in an accident where I was driving a car chasing another car which was a convertable all because of some words that were exchanged. I was not drunk but mad and I wanted to kick there asses!! But you know what I didnt get that chance to. They were in front of me and wrecked down a hill at about 100 mph. One18 year old man was killed and 2 were injured pretty dam bad. I went straight to a pay phone and called for help. I could have drove away because there was noone around but I didnt. I knew I was wrong and that I had to take responsiblity for what I had contributed to. I was charged with vehicular homicide. Spent some time had plenty of time to think about what I did.Since I didnt think about it much before I started chasing them. I know I should have just stopped chasing them and not let them words be the cause of a death. To this day I think about that 18 year old man that lost his life over some stupid ass words. Its been 13 years and there is not a week that goes by that I dont think about this man. My point being is people make bad decisions but most of them do not deserve to die over them. Killers or rapists and probably some others but not drinking a beer and racing. Wake up and realize no matter how perfect you think you are noone is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. And yes you are intitled to your opinion and so am I. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family!!

Can you point out where I said that what he did was smart? Or that what he didn't wasn't wrong? You're totally biased on one subject all the time and you can't take a step back and look at an argument.
+rep for lulunwl for his view.
