Gaming Pirate Sentenced to Over 2 Years in Prison

A man named Qiang “Michael” Bi, of Powell, Ohio was sentenced to 2 and half years in prison on charges including copyright infringement, mail fraud, and identity theft. He sold pirated games for four years from 2005 to December of 2009 for $10 each. His illegal operation was found out when Qiang emailed a spreadsheet that detailed his sales to his work email at Nationwide Insurance company. The spreadsheet showed that Michael used over 50 eBay and PayPal accounts during his pirating operation. After the company became aware of the email, they called in the FBI and U.S Postal Inspectors to take over the investigation from there. It is estimated that the retail price of Bi’s pirated games sales are at about $700,000. Bi must give up his house, computer, car, and all his equipment that had to do with his operation, as well as forfeiting $367,669. Once Bi is out of jail he must also do 416 hours of community service.

He must be so pissed. Why take his house as well? 2 1/2 years in prison is punishment enough for copying games.
