This guy nailed it.
If one of your reasons for getting in to the NFL is because you think the fans of the sport are awesome, you won't beat the fans of the NFC East. From trashing each others cars in the parking lot after games, to our 5 year olds whipping the opposing bus the finger on their way out, pelting fans with snowballs. NFC East has the best rivalries in a lot of "experts" opinions.
Just let me limit it down from 4 teams to 3. For the love of (insert religious belief here) do not become a Cowboys fan. We got enough of those people that think their team is the shit cause they last won a SB 16 years ago.
Teams have been fairly consistent.
Cowboys - Get into the playoffs lose in first round.
Eagles - Get to NFC Championship game and lose.
Redskins - Win the "March" games.
Giants - Start season strong flame out at the end.

Now that is just my take. All I can suggest is not picking a team only because they're winning. If you're not going to take a team that's from the NFC East. Pick the Lions start now and in 2 years when they're in the playoffs, at least you can say you watched the team when they weren't the best. Up and coming baby, up and coming.
You said you like the Cardinals go for it. They went 5-11 this year, which is not great. They have the 5th pick in this years draft. As a new fan why not watch as they rebuild the team. They play in the worse division is football so you won't have to wait long until they are fighting for a playoff spot.
