HOLMESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff's deputy says a 10-year-old Ohio boy suspected in his mother's shooting death may have argued with her beforehand about whether to carry firewood into the home.

The boy is charged with murder as a juvenile and has entered the equivalent of a not guilty plea.

Chief Deputy Nathan Fritz of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday authorities found one shotgun, three rifles and a gun rack in the boy's bedroom. Fritz says the .22-caliber rifle authorities believe was used in the shooting was found on the bed.

Relatives have told authorities the weapons were a gift from the boy's now-deceased grandfather.

The child's mother was found dead Sunday of a gunshot wound to the head at home in Big Prairie, about midway between Cleveland and Columbus.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio (AP) — An investigator says two loaded guns were found on the bed of a 10-year-old Ohio boy charged as a juvenile with murder in the shooting death of his mother.

Chief Deputy Nathan Fritz of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office says one weapon was a .22-caliber rifle investigators believe was used to fire the fatal shot. Fritz tells The Daily Record of Wooster (WU'-stur) the other was a 12-gauge shotgun.

The newspaper reports investigators think the guns were given to the child by his now-deceased grandfather.

Mother Deborah McVay was found dead Sunday night of a single gunshot wound to the head at the home in Big Prairie, about midway between Cleveland and Columbus. Her son's attorney on Monday entered the juvenile equivalent of a not guilty plea.
