Post: Should new members be encouraged more to contribute?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hello NGU.

Just wondering what you guys think about this idea.

After looking at the NGU statistics thread in general and looking at the amount of people with over a certain number of posts, I realized that whilst many users do have a high post count, most of the site's registered users do not have many at all. It can be daunting to post for the first time on such a big forum, so do you think messages should pop up for new users viewing a thread, such as:

"Like this thread? Reply by clicking here."

This might help introduce shyer people into becoming a more active and contributing member.

/Discuss.

TLAwesome faceR: Should measures be taken to get new members to post and not just read on the forums.

I'm not just talking about those who don't feel 'ready' to post, but those who generally don't see a need to post, but may have things to bring to the forum.

No its their choice to either post or not post. It has nothing to do with people being scared of posting, a lot of registered people dont have a lot or any posts because they register to just read the forum, which is what i do.

If your scared about someoone writing stuff about you on the internet then get a life, no body knows you, if you have something to say then say it, if not then their is no need to post.

This is just about encouraging members to become more active not contribute more their two completely different things. I'm an active member but I don't contribute much reason for that is I can never think of anything to contribute I think we've all seen enough fact and top 10 threads.

But yeah encourage members to become more active and if they don't post for more than 3 months an automatic e-mail should be sent to them telling them that if they continue to not post on the forums their account will be deleted this is only for new members not for premiums, obviously.

This is a good idea, what's the point of bragging 350k members if most of them are inactive?
