It’s a risky move financially to put it mildly.

Luck was a lock to go first overall in the draft, and the delay makes the presence of a rookie wage scale when Luck is taken even more likely. Luck spoke often about wanting to graduate and improvements he felt like he still needed to make in his game. It wasn’t just lip service. (Peter King reported as much regarding Luck a few weeks ago.)

Still, Luck seems to be at a different talent level than someone like Jake Locker or Matt Leinart who returned for their senior seasons. By all indications, Luck’s draft stock is closer to Peyton Manning, who also returned for his senior season.

Luck had another week left before he had to make the decision. We wonder if the timing of this announcement could influence Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh’s decision to go pro again or not.

Harbaugh seems likely to leave, but there have already been a lot of surprising moments in the coaching search.

Well Carolina Panther fans, your season has ended, however, the losses just continue to roll in. Whether or not they would have taken Luck or not (Would have been ****ing crazy not to) is debatable, this pick had a lot of value in it from teams looking to trade up to get the top QB in the draft.

Now the question is does Harbaugh hang around Stanford one more year and take a shot at winning a National Championship. It's risky for both but I still think they'd both be hot commodities again next year. Harbaugh would even benefit more from returning a year and proving he isn't just a one year wonder.

By the looks of it, Harbaugh might sign with the Dolphins, 49ers or Broncos.

Yeah I don't think Harbaugh stays if reports of the Dolphins offering around 7m a year are accurate.

Do or Do Not, There is No Try
I am actually glad to see him remain in college. It is a wise choice for him. He has had one amazing season at Stanford. I am more interested in seeing if he is consistent by repeating his performance. Only reason he was a secure #1 pick this year in the NFL Draft was due to the reason of it being a very weak class.

His decision to remain at Stanford will have an impact on Harbaugh's decision as well. I believe Jim will want to try to win a national championship. If he goes to the NFL, it will be many seasons before he even makes the playoffs as he will have to rebuild the team he goes to. Let's face it, only the bad teams want him right now. So with money aside, it is wiser for him to remain at Stanford.

Looks like reports are saying that it is down to the 49ers and Stanford for Harbaugh, with him staying at Stanford the most likely scenario.

49ers and Stanford, with Luck staying at Stanford it definetly makes that the better choice imo. The 49ers are going to be hard to pass up though, they are going to make him the top paid coach in the NFL if he does go there. It could just end up like Nick Saban did though. Sadly it doesn't look like he will go to michigan, which is what i was hoping

It's a little insane that he decided to stay. He should've asked Matt Leinart how that worked out for him. Slipped from guaranteed #1 to #10 in the draft, and didn't have the NFL skills necessary to sign another lucrative deal after his rookie contract expired. Sam Bradford got hurt 1 or 2 games into his senior season, luckily for him the QB position was weak at best last year so he still went #1 to a team that desperately needed a signal caller. Luck should've come out and played the Elway/Eli card of, "Don't draft me Carolina, I won't play for your organization." They're going to renegotiate the collective bargaining agreement next offseason and the rookie pay scale is a big point of contention between the owners and the NFLPA. So even if he goes #1 in 2012 he's still going to receive less than he would as the #1 in 2011. He's NFL ready, and should've just declared.

A new CBA would need to be in place for any rookie to sign a contract with their team. Therefore, he loses no money by staying at Stanford another year as opposed to coming out this year, that is unless his stock (not likely) drops.
