Vimeo vs. YouTube

I recently started using Vimeo and I began to compare and contrast it with YouTube.

We all use YouTube. It's the most famous video sharing site on the internet. But we also know all the annoyances with YouTube. All the copyrights, ads, and etc. It all became like this when Google bought YouTube. Before that YouTube wasn't so uptight.

Vimeo is a site that is similar to YouTube. You can stream and upload videos in HD. Let's take a look at the pro's and con's of YouTube and Vimeo

Vimeo Pro's
-It's almost impossible to get copyrighted
-No time limit
-You can upload HD
-Better video statistics (You can see how many views, likes, and comments you get a day)
-Videos load pretty fast

YouTube Pro's
-Much more popular
-You can upload HD
-More dynamic commenting and voting system

Now lets take a look at the con's of both sites

Vimeo Con's:
-You have a weekly limit of 500.00MB and 1 HD video per week with a basic account
-Ads (But they are rare)

YouTube Con's
-Ads every where
-Copyrights
-Disabling audio
-15 minute time limit for most users

Now look at the advantages you get with Vimeo PLUS
-Even higher quality video
-5GB/week upload space
-1GB/file limit. They're testing 2GB file uploads via the desktop uploader (beta).
Unlimited HD uploading
Unlimited HD embedding
Advanced statistics
Faster, priority uploading
Super-customizable video player
Original file storage and downloading
Unlimited Groups, Channels & Albums
Advanced privacy including domain-level control
Plus members never see ads, ever!
Much, much more

Unfortunately Vimeo PLUS has a price :(. $59.95 Annually or $9.95 a month.

In my opinion if they make Vimeo 100% with all the advantages of PLUS and an unlimited upload limit I would be using that instead of YouTube.

Let me know what you think. Vimeo or YouTube? Does Vimeo have potential?

Please check out Vimeo before just jumping on the YouTube bandwagon.

Sir
Reeferlution
My friend uses vimeo to upload his vids because of the lack of copyrighting and the quality like you said. Vimeo definitely has potential, but YouTube is so popular at this point most people will stick with it.

Never actually heard of Vimeo, and thats probably the biggest con. Youtube is way more known than Vimeo and has more people watching their videos.

Vimeo came out back in 2004 and was followed by Youtube two years later. I never even heard of youtube until Andy Samberg did Lazy Sunday and it became really popular. After that I stuck with Vimeo because Youtube was pretty lame but a year later it was huge. I still visit Vimeo I just prefer Youtube now.

Why will YouTube win?
Because Google owns YouTube.
Google has money, Google wins.
If Vimeo did get a step ahead, then Google would just slap another huge ass dedi to YouTube and allow 25GB+ on their videos.
There is no stopping Google, they are in it to win it now.
First YouTube, then the mobile phone world, now they are working on their on OS.
