I think that it is real, come on how else would this make it into CNN and other big news sources.

And post whether or not you'll be on the computer tomorrow. I for one will be I'm backing up all my files right now updating what I can and putting passwords on alot of my important files. Tomorrow I will use McAfee to go on a firewall lockdown and search the web safely.

dude this whole conficker thing wont be able to **** with my 5 year old system.
I know this computer so damn well If anything changes with out my explicit command I know about it.
Worst case senario I reformat. It's not like i handle banking info on here. If I could save and break this conficker thing down in a Hex editor to see whats what, that would be cool.

My friend think that there doing this for a joke so more people will buy more anti virus software....

It's very possible that these anti virus companies came up with this story to sell more software. It's not like it hasn't been done before.
Hell the software they are selling to everyone "updating" could have hidden malware so they can BS you into buying more later.
