And if that's the case, who is to say they have to travel "billions of light years" to get here, they're probably closer than you think. Land in the White House and announce they're here, yeah, that's a pretty smart move to do...
There are aliens out here, aliens, intelligent life, whatever, there is something here. Yes, I believe in UFOs and Aliens.
yes, i need proof to believe in anything. i will need physical proof of unicorns before i can accept them as fact. i will need physical proof that the planet jupiter is made of 90% chocolate pudding before i can accept it as fact. no matter how likely something is, you can't call it definite until there is physical proof. I said in the post you're quoting that there is most likely other life in the universe, but i still need factual evidence to know for a fact it's there.
We can observe relatively close stars with radio (look up SETI). If this intelligent life was close enough, you would expect to be hearing radio transmissions from such an advanced species... yet we hear none. That's why INTELLIGENT life has to be so far away. More simplistic life could, however, exist closer.
Why wouldn't announcing their presence be a smart move? Think about it, if WE were sending starcrafts out into the cosmos and happened upon an intelligent species, what do you think we would do? announce our presence of course.
if a species can get here, it has resources. if it has resources, it has no reason to be malevolent.

OMG the Green men are here, or are they pink, or blue, or white, black, brown maybe purple or yellow?
The universe does not end, and that means there are infinite planets. On one of those planets there has to be something as intelligent as us. Maybe not Mars or any of the ones we know of, but somewhere. But the question is, do they have that greater technology to be able to fly out of their atmosphere and over to Earth? We have space shuttles and rockets that go to space, but cant go that far in comparison to the universe. I think it is unlikely that another planet would have the technology to do so, and if they do, why does nobody on the international space station see them flying in space? Or when you hear about a UFO sighting, only one or two people see it and not everybody below where the "UFO" is.
Also, why land on the White house lawn and not Downing Street?
actually, as far as we know the universe DOES in fact end. The big bang was an origin point, and space-time is still expanding. And the matter inside the universe is finite as well, meaning there can not be infinite planets.
we are actually on the course now to developing inter celestial crafts as well...
