Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar is retiring from professional football at the end of this season, according to his management agency’s website.
‘Suddenly you just know it’s the time to go,’ Van der Sar is quoted as saying. ‘It is time to spend more time with your family.’

Van der Sar, 40, has been a professional for 21 years. The former Dutch international, who has won a string of awards, said he does not yet know what his next move will be.
