Sustained gunfire has been heard close to Cairo's Tahrir Square - as around 100,000 protesters gather in Egypt's capital for what is being called the "Day of Departure".
Demonstrators are on the streets in several Egyptian cities to call on embattled leader Hosni Mubarak to step down immediately. The president of 30 years has said he will remain in control until September, when he will not stand for re-election.
There are fears there could be a repeat of the violence of recent days, which saw men throwing petrol bombs and rocks, and dishing out brutal beatings on the streets. Gunshots have been heard north of the square - and tanks have been seen moving towards that area.
The current President Mubarak, 82 has told the world he would back down now but fears the worse for Egypt's future if a
'Islamist Muslim Brotherhood' would take power.
As world leader are pushing the leader from his position he has replied to the American President, Barrack Obama by saying
'You don't understand the Egyptian culture and what would happen if I step down now' , this has never happend before, is there more information behind the curtains that we don't know?
