River J posted a nice thread about what we all do to celebrate Black History Month (found You must login or register to view this content.), so I figured I'd let you guys know what we're actually celebrating!

According to Biography.com, "Every February, Americans celebrate Black History Month. This tribute dates back to 1926 and is credited to a Harvard scholar named Carter G. Woodson. The son of former slaves, Woodson dedicated his life to ensuring that black history was accurately documented and disseminated.

"In an effort to bring national attention to the contributions of black Americans, Woodson organized the first annual Negro History Week in 1926. He chose the second week of February in honor of the birthdays of pivotal black supporters Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln."

There's a few other meanings floating around the web, but this one seems to be the most documented and most significant.

Contributions? What contributions? Name one thing black people have contributed to society or something they have done to have helped it advance in anyway. I didn't know discovering a bunch of ways to use peanuts could give your race an entire month just for its celebration.

I am not raciest but here are some of my views: Black people have a whole month dedicated to celebrate their history, if a white person tried to celebrate white history for a month they would be considered "racist"

.I am not positive about this one but I do believe that there are black colleges out there and now when if white people had all white colleges they would be considered "racist"

This is just someof my opinions please do not take this the wrong way! I have several black friends and am not racist

McDonalds obviously think the black people did something good :p

Hah i heard some guys in my class complaining about how their month was the shortest of the year.
Its like damm, at least you guys have a month. Stop being ":plank:ing" greedy Atleast they have a month.
