2010 was an interesting year for gaming CEO’s, some did OK, while others did extremely well despite a topsy-turvy economy. These guys are some of the most fascinating figures in the world of gaming and sometimes they say things that keeps their PR departments on its toes. In this post we will go through some really off the wall comments made by the gaming titans of 2010.

Activison CEO: “Bungie are a very unusual company.”
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, is probably the most hated gaming CEO’s of our time, he tends to say things that gets the gaming community in an uproar, and sometimes I think he gets hes kicks from it. In one interview Mr. Kotick threw every single game developer under the bus except for one company he recently signed a major contract with of coure.
“Bungie are a very unusual company, They’re probably the last remaining high quality independent developer. It’s very hard to [pauses]… that has sort of has institutional skills and capabilities. And they’re a real company”. Ouch man, just Ouch.

Kojima Productions CEO: “Japanese developers are better quality of developers, compared to the west”
Hideo Kojima, the man behind the Metal Gear series is one of the best game designers of all time, and is usually a cool fellow. But in one of he’s interview, Mr. Kojima told us how he really felt our he’s western counterparts.
“The differences between the creators in Japan and the West in this industry… Japanese creators try to express the game’s environment through beautiful artwork, but western developers use technology to draw out the environment. The Japanese make the models and textures carefully to create a world. The West use shaders, lighting, shadows, effects, and programming to create their world.” In other words, western games pale in comparison to Japanese games, that one left a wound Mr. Kojima.

Sony CEO: “When I go home to my family my son is in a darkened bedroom”
Sir Howard Stringer is one tough cookie, former solider and now the head of one of the biggest consumer electronics company’s in the world. From time to time, he says some really bizarre things, like this doozie where he tries to explain how 3D will bring family’s closer together.
“You talk about [3D glasses preventing] the family gathering around. [But] the family isn’t gathering around anyway,”When I go home to my family my son is in a darkened bedroom

Nintendo Of America CEO: “Apple “is not having an impact on Nintendo when you look at our business”
Reggie Fils-Aimé is a man on a mission, a mission to make Nintendo the most dominant platform in the world. When it looked like Apple was encroaching on he’s company’s bread & Butter that is the handheld market, Reggie went on the offensive.
Apple “is not having an impact on Nintendo when you look at our business, our volume, our hardware, our software,” Fils-Aime said. “I’ve seen data that suggestions that while consumers are constantly downloading Apps, they play with them for a few times and then they are moving on to the next thing. “Clearly it doesn’t look like their platform is a viable profit platform for game development because so many of the games are free versus paid downloads.”

EA CEO: ”innovative and new take” on the Madden Franchise.
John Riccitiello Isn’t as controversial figure, he’s barely in the news. But he made the mistake of putting innovative in the same sentence with the never innovative Madden franchise. Mr. Riccitiello said that EA will reinvent the aging franchise, and ”innovative and new take”, as we all saw, this never happened.
