A majority of the users on NGU are either from America or the UK. I've noticed the way we speak is different. Americans use different terms for certain things when compared to the British. Their basically synonyms for the term or phrase so I thought it would be a good idea to post some and compare.

American vs British:

Apartments - Flats

Jelly - Jam

Gas - Petrol

Dude - Mate

Flashlight - Torch

Cookie - Biscuit

Eraser - Rubber

Freeway - Motorway

License Plate - Number Plate

Movie Theater - Cinema

Parking Lot - Car Park

Fries - Chips

Sidewalk - Pavement

Soccer - Football

Truck - Lorry

Trunk - Boot

Exhaust - Silencer

Sedan - Saloon

Windshield - Windscreen

Can - Tin

Aluminum - Aluminium

Asphalt - Tarmac

Trash can - Dust bin

Cell - Mobile

Shopping cart - Trolley

Mail - Post

Pants - Trousers

If you got think of any, add them  :y:

I would agree with all except

Exhaust - Silencer
Most English people call it an Exhaust Winky Winky

And to the post above, If your referring to something like a fanny pack, then bum is correct.
However Fanny means something in English as well (Kid word for vagina).

Maybe it's just West Coast dialect. :y: When I hear the slang for suppressor, it's always silencer.
