This is going to be the last swine flu thread posted here. I'm going to give you a couple of points to finally shut all of you up about this nonsense. I just want to say first that everyone is acting completely ridiculous about this supposed "pandemic".

First off, the acting chief for the Centers for Disease Control Richard Besser explained that this flu is not nearly as severe as many epidemics and pandemics the world has seen before. Not NEARLY as bad as the 1918 Flu Pandemic that killed FIFTY MILLION world-wide. He also went on to explain that the "swine flu" is no more dangerous than an "average winter", which kills about 36,000 people in the United States annually due to flu infenctions. That right there should calm people down, but I know it won't.

Let's talk about the actual death toll and the people who are dying from this virus. The WHO has confirmed 257 cases of swine flu worldwide. 97 cases in Mexico, with seven deaths… 109 confirmed cases [in the US] with 1 death. Out of a population of more than 300 million people, that hardly seems to be cause for alarm… In fact, some [scientists] suggest that the current form of the swine flu virus may not even do as much damage as the regular flu. SEVEN DEATHS WORLDWIDE PEOPLE. The people dying are people in Mexico, a third world country with an unstable government, no centralized hospital system, no medicine to treat the virus and horribly trained doctors. Make sense that 6 people died in Mexico now? The other death was a TWENTY THREE MONTH OLD INFANT WITH CLOSE TO NO IMMUNE SYSTEM IN TEXAS. That should also make some sense.

The reason this whole fiasco is causing more panic than pandemic is because it's the government and media officials just dishing out they're sick and twisted fetish for disaster. They get wind of a few people dying from a strain of the flu, start calling up health officials and scientist (WHO NEVER GET CALLED BY THE MEDIA, SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW EXCITED THEY GET) and they pressure them into making statments like "Well yes, the flu could have the potential to become a pandemic..." and suddenly it's THE END OF THE WORLD in the news.

Please people, learn to do actual research before getting sucked into the filthy anus of the media. There is absolutely NO reason to have this much hysteria over something that is NOT NEWS.

I want this thread closed, and stickied on top until this swineflu bs blows over so that everyone can ONLY read it. The other threads should be closed and/or deleted because there is only more speculation and misleading opinions in them that just cause more fear and ignorant hysteria. Everything you've read in THIS thread is FACT.

Good post. But seriously don't have to get serious about it like stickying it and closing it until swine flu is gone. We was only really joking about it in the shoutbox.

If people want to post something about the swine flu, then they can. We are not MSNBC here.

And I can only see 1 thread related to the swine flu, and it was posted when the outbreak just begun.

yeah but it's still nice to know all this info

There's been more than 1 death in the US. A baby died in Columbus last night. There have been 10 cases in Columbus alone. This according to Children's Hospital. Also there have been over 50 confirmed exposed, testing is still under way to see if they actually received the virus. In Columbus alone, 1 dead and around 15 cases (estimating that 10% exposed got the virus).

I don't think the CDC is updating their stats because it was the same numbers as it was 2 days ago.

Also 400 schools nationwide have been closed due to confirmed cases of swine flu. So that means there are at LEAST 400 cases in the US. Around 250,000 kids aren't in school for 2 weeks or more because of it.

I'm 100% positive about the info on the top section. I'm 95% positive on the 400 schools closed nationwide part.

Well actually its no longer called the swine flu, now its the H1N1. This is due to the companies who sell pig meat and what not started that the name was bad for there business. I should also mention that you can't catch it by eating pork or beacon. So you guys cn go back eating agent jons pigs.

The H1N1 is just the strain of the virus. It's always been 'called that' people just nicknamed it the swine flu due to the origin being in pigs.
