(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Alcohol. You will once come in counter with it. It may be when your young or may be when your older. We just know you will come into play with it. It may not be about drinking it, it could be something as simple as being offered a beer at a party.

Alright today I am going to start talking about alcohol. I do not know if this will be a continuous thread or not it really depends on how much I type right now. As it is 3:15 AM. This morning I guess you would call it I am going to talk to you a little bit about alcohol. I will try and use as much knowledge as I have about it and then I will resort to the interwebs.

History of Alcohol.

You will be surprised when alcohol has been supposedly began as a drink. There has been discovery's of beer jugs in the late stone age! Yes thats like 11,000 BC. Now I know you are probably saying no way. But think of this the bible says Jesus could turn water into wine did it not? So this could be true. Now alcohol has progressed over the years starting from wine created from grapes right to Hard liquor in todays date. In the olden days it was normal for people to drink alcohol such as beer on a regular basis. This was due to the cause of water was very hard to find because they did not have ways to travel like we do. The reason it was beer was because beer did have water in it but not as much. So instead of having a full glass of water you could be drinking beer or ale as they liked to call it that might only be 50% water. This is the History of Alcohol.

Types of Alcohol

There are currently many types of alcohol. You can have to old fashion wine all the way up to the hard liquor. The most common Alcohol is beer and wine.

Wines are made from a variety of fruits, such as grapes,
peaches, plums or apricots. The most common wines are
produced from grapes. The soil in which the grapes are
grown and the weather conditions in the growing season
determine the quality and taste of the grapes which in
turn affects the taste and quality of wines. When ripe, the
grapes are crushed and fermented in large vats to produce wine.

Beer is also made by the process of fermentation. A liquid
mix, called wort, is prepared by combining yeast and
malted cereal, such as corn, rye, wheat or barely.
Fermentation of this liquid mix produces alcohol and carbon dioxide.
The process of fermentation is stopped
before it is completed to limit the alcohol content. The
alcohol so produced is called beer. It contains 4 to 8 per
cent of alcohol.

Vodka is one of the world's most popular distilled beverages.
It is a clear liquid containing water and ethanol purified by distillation, often multiple
distillation, from a fermented substance such as potatoes, grain (usually rye or wheat) or sugar beet molasses, and an
insignificant amount of other substances such as flavorings or unintended impurities.

Whiskey is made by distilling the fermented juice of cereal
grains such as corn, rye or barley.
Scotch whiskey was originally made in Scotland. The word "Scotch" has become
almost synonymous with whiskey of good quality.

Rum is a distilled beverage made from fermented
molasses or sugarcane juice and is aged for at least three
years. Caramel is sometimes used for coloring.

Brandy is distilled from fermented fruit juices. Brandy is
usually aged in oak casks. The color of brandy comes
either from the casks or from caramel that is added.

Gin is a distilled beverage. It is a combination of alcohol,
water and various flavors. Gin does not improve with
age, so it is not stored in wooden casks.

Liqueurs are made by adding sugar and flavoring such as
fruits, herbs or flowers to brandy or to a combination of
alcohol and water. Most liqueurs contain 20-65 per cent
alcohol. They are usually consumed in small quantities
after dinner.

Price of Alcohol

Alcohol prices depend on the size, brand, and alcohol percentage within the drink. The reason the size is a factor is pretty self explanatory because the bigger in size means the more materials used to create it. The brand is a factor because different factories can get certain ingredients easier. Such as say you were a UK factory and you sold a wine where the berries found in the wine were only located in the US. Your price will be raised a lot. The alcohol percentage is a factor because with a little percentage of alcohol it is cheap to create the drink. With a higher percentage the drink costs more because you are using more alcohol instead of other ingredients that cost next to nothing.

Alcohol prices are hard to be determined as I listed before. You can only give a rough estimate of the price. Seeing as there is cheaper types of alcohol then others. Such as a cheap beer would be something like Pilsner, as a expensive beer would be something like Molson Canadian. This goes for Wine and Hard Liquor as well. The best way to find the price of alcohol is to go to a few stores and price it out.

Diageo

Diageo is one of the biggest alcohol companies in the world. They distribute some of the best known alcohol in the world such as Smirnoff (the world's largest-selling vodka), Johnnie Walker (the world's largest-selling whisky), José Cuervo (the world's largest-selling tequila), Baileys (the world's largest-selling liqueur) and Guinness (the world's largest-selling stout). They also own 34 per cent of Moët Hennessy, which owns brands including Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Hennessy. It sells its products in approximately 180 countries and has offices in 80 countries.

Diageo was formed in 1997 from the merger of Guinness plc and Grand Metropolitan plc. The creation was driven by the two executives Anthony Greener and Philip Yea at Guinness plus George Bull and John McGrath of Grand Metropolitan. In 2002, Diageo sold the Burger King fast food restaurant chain to a consortium led by US firm Texas Pacific for $1.5 billion. Diageo also owned Pillsbury until 2000 when it was sold to General Mills. In December 2003, Diageo provoked controversy over its decision to change its Cardhu brand Scotch whisky from a single malt to a vatted malt (also known as a blended malt or a pure malt) whilst retaining the original name and bottle style. In 2006, the Cardhu brand quietly changed back to being a single malt. In July 2009, Diageo announced that, after nearly 200 years of association with the town of Kilmarnock, they would be closing the Johnnie Walker blending and bottling plant as part of restructuring to the business. This would make 700 workers unemployed and caused outrage from press, local people and politicians. In February 2009, it was reported in the Guardian that the company had restructured itself so as to avoid paying tax in the U.K.[18] Diageo is engaged in a tax structure in the United States of America, commonly referred to as the "Rum Bailout".

Drinking and Driving

Well of course I had to add a section about drinking and driving. If I never people would never know the results about drinking and driving. Now recently in school I have a retired EMT come to my school and talk to our whole school about drinking and driving. He also brought a power point with him with pictures from scenes that he went to after he retired. He got all permission from the families to post the photos.

He also told us a story about a group of kids making jokes about the photos and they thought he couldn't hear them but he did. So he just ignored them the whole presentation. Now he went back to riding with present EMT's to calls of crashes and such so he could gather pictures and information. Now he was called to one specific scene and when they got there he said it was the worst crash he has ever seen. Now while they were putting the one male in a body bag. He thought something was funny so he finished up and a few days later it came to him. The one male in that car accident was in that group that was making jokes about the presentation. And the crash was due to Drinking and Driving.

So I thought I would share that story to show you all that it doesn't matter if you think you can drive perfect while intoxicated. It takes seconds to ruin or even end your life. So remember that next time you need a ride home. And I know its hard to say no I have to do it, but it is worth it in the end. So just try to call a cab or have a DD.

Here are some Statistics from MADD Canada.

Characteristics of the Drinking and Driving Problem with Young People

Older Teens: Of all the young drinking drivers who are killed or seriously injured, the smallest proportion is 16 years of age. The largest proportion is 19 years of age.

Males: Account for 87% of the young fatally injured drinking drivers and 89% of the seriously injured drinking drivers.

Summertime: Young drinking drivers are most likely to be killed or injured in the summer (32.4% and 40.8%, respectively) and least likely to be killed or injured in the winter (8.0% and 11.4%, respectively).

Weekend: A large percentage of young drinking drivers die or are seriously injured on the weekend.

Night time: The vast majority of young drinking drivers die or are seriously injured in crashes at night.

Automobiles: Most young drinking drivers are killed or seriously injured when driving an automobile.

Single-vehicle: Young drinking drivers are most likely to be involved in single-vehicle crashes.

At fault: In nearly 2/3 of the alcohol involved multiple vehicle crashes it was the fatally injured teen driver who had been drinking and not the other driver.

Crashes: By the time a driver reaches a blood alcohol content of 0.10 he or she is 51 times more likely than a non-drinking driver to be involved in a fatal crash.

That is some information about alcohol. I hope you enjoyed it. If you actually read it all. I will be adding more later. But for now I think I made a good start. I took me quite awhile to do it. So I really hope you all enjoyed it. If you care to suggest anything for me to add I will be happy to give you credits in the thread and I will also rep you. Once again thanks for reading.
