I have this problem as well. Some nights, you will be on the edge of falling asleep then something will break you and you spend the rest of your night awake sometimes doing this 2 days in a row. I have this issue, I usually just take a couple cold medications for nighttime that put you to sleep, it helps.
Try nerve relaxers. If you go and see your doctor they actually have prescription for this stuff, although it does have it's own side effects.
Make sure you are lying in bed. Place a pillow over your ears. Close your eyes and relax your mind, don't even think about anything. This may help you, although not 100% of the time.
It helps me at times.
I developed my sleeping disorder around 12 years old, so I've learned to deal with it. I'm actually typing this on 2 hours of sleep.
