A fourth grader in Washington D.C. has been charged with drug possession, for allegedly bringing cocaine to school and sharing it with some other students.
Officials with DC Public Schools say four elementary school students either sniffed or swallowed cocaine brought to school by a classmate Thursday.
The students involved at Thomson elementary school were taken to a hospital to be checked out, but are fine aside from having sore throats. A fifth student who recently had surgery was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
A letter sent home to parents Thursday from the school’s principal said child protective services and the police are investigating how the student got the cocaine.
On Monday, counselors will be at the school to discuss the dangers of drugs and drug awareness with the students.

Why are you all assuming it was the parents. Maybe a drug dealer thought it would be really funny to give coke to an 11 year old, that sounds more likely
What is surprising to me is that 4 other kids were willing to try it.
So you have five kids during school who are going to be sitting around cutting out lines?
OK, 1 kid is F'd up and has access to coke either through a family member or someone else, maybe Uncle Marion Barry.
But 4 other kids are willing to try some too?
I can see it now, them sitting around, cutting lines with other kids watching and someone finally went to a school official.
Sounds like way to many DC inner city kids are being exposed to this crap way too early.
It really is a very sad statement on inner city youth and the conditions they are growing up in..
