Monkeys and apes were not what we evolved directly from but ya we're the same family.
Evolution takes a long time for some and others, because of quick changes a single species could split into two more over a few generations.
If I payed more attention in science Id remember the name for it but the apes and monkeys went in seperate enviroments and adapted to their needs as did our ancestors.
After long enough you get a gap between species just like how there are separate races.

We didn't evolve from monkeys and apes. We share a common ancestor.
