Post: Kid brings a loaded handgun to my school

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I no longer go to this school, but many of my friends still attend it and brought this story to my attention. It happened earlier today.

Here's the letter from the schools principal, I removed the name of the school for privacy reasons.

Dear THS Families and Students,

Today a T******** High School student was found to be in possession of a fully loaded 22 caliber handgun in the school building. At no time did the student threaten harm with the gun. He indicated that he felt he was in danger in connection with a previous altercation at school and needed protection on the walk home.

THS administration became aware of the presence of the weapon when students who saw it reported it to an assistant principal.

Very soon afterward our School Resource Officer DFC Jay Godlove and Cpl. Scott Blundell, with the aid of Assistant Principals Dale Peters and Greg Keller, removed the student from class without incident. In the office and out of sight of other students, the officers conducted a search and found the weapon on the student’s person. They confiscated the weapon and subsequently removed the student from campus. He is now in custody, facing several criminal charges. In addition, he will be disciplined according to FCPS policy for possession of a firearm, which at the high school level calls for permanent removal.

Weapons have no place in our school or any school. I cannot stress enough the importance of students coming forward promptly and honestly about potentially dangerous situations in our school. THS students and staff alike should be grateful that students today had the courage and conviction to do exactly that.

Parents: Please do your part at home to underscore the seriousness of this matter. As always, school counselors are available to support students who may have concerns.

Kathleen Schlappal, Principal
T******** High School

I don't know the kids name, so I don't know if I knew him or not, but this is still pretty crazy. This is one of many crazy things that have happened at my school.

Guns of the marshmellow caliber, surprisingly, do no damage.
