(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I've been hanging around the Debate Section for nearly a year now, and I have noticed that so many people have started posting topics that have absolutely no substance. "Opinion Topics," if you will. These opinion topics can range from "Who is your favorite rapper?" to "What is your favorite McDonald's food?" and serve no other purpose than to collect opinions. There's nothing wrong with collecting opinions, but this is a DEBATE section. You can't debate an opinion. It's just not possible. It's one thing if it's "Which is better: Dodge or Chevy?" Because you can give statistics on the performance and sales patterns of their vehicles, but asking something like "Which rapper is better?" doesn't allow for an intellectual debate.

Maybe we can create a different section specifically for "Opinion Topics," but I feel that we need to remove them from the Debate section, because they're taking up a lot of room. (Especially all the rapper threads!)

EDIT: Out of the 20 threads visible on the first page (after I posted the topic) 12 were outright opinion threads, 2 were purely speculation and therefore could not be debated, and 1 wasn't even an opinion OR a debate thread. That means, excluding this one (and the stickied one[s]), there are only four actual debate topics visible on the first page. That's just sad.
