Post: Can You Tell The Difference Between Lossless & MP3?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Just curious if any of you can tell the difference between a lossless audio file(FLAC or the Apple one) & an MP3..?

I'm listening to a Green Day FLAC & a Green Day MP3(320 kbps) atm on my 125$ headset, and I'm not sure if I can tell the two apart. This may just be because to really experience lossless you need much more expensive audio equipment, or maybe because I'm just not an audiophile.

How about you guys? Can you tell the difference and if so what speakers/headset are you using? :p

Honestly, it depends on the bit-rate of mp3.

I listen to music on V-Moda Crossfade LP Headphones (retail $250) and a 320kbps mp3 sounds just as good as FLAC. But sometimes it depends on the genre.

You can't really tell the difference if you listen to synth-heavy Electronic music, Hip-Hop, and R&B. But Rock music generally sounds slightly better when encoded in FLAC (or any other lossless format)
