Here is my unorganized, random story of opinions and such on this... (lol)
I had Xbox for 2 years until mine broke before this Christmas when I got a PS3. :FU: I loved my Xbox the whole time I had it and I like my PS3 now too. I like both consoles.
One feature I definitely miss is cross game/party chat on Xbox. I'd be happy to see Sony put that in. The other issue is I hardly know anyone that has a PS3, all my real life friends are on Xbox. On PS3 I play CoD and other games alone for the most part :fa:, partly because I have TB PX21s as my only headset and I hate them. I miss using my TB X4s on Xbox and being able to chat.
The few times I've used a friends Xbox in the recent months without one I realized how massive and heavy the Xbox controller is. I like the small size and weight of the PS3 controller, and the fact that is comes without batteries and you just charge it. I did have a play and charge kit for Xbox though. :p
Free online is definitely a plus for PS3 too. :y:
I also think PS3 has the better exclusives, but I'm not even interested in them. I have Uncharted 2 and Gran Turismo and they have amazing graphics, as does Killzone 3, I've played the beta. I also know that the PS3 has it's blue ray drive which allows for much bigger games which is a plus for that side too, but as I said I'm not huge on those games I could care less about them. Halo is the only exclusive I've ever loved. (and that's just a personal opinion, some people hate Halo, but I don't)
All I have to say is, I think it comes down to who you know and what system they have. It's all preference. I think if I had a working Xbox again I would play it more than PS3, just because all my friends play it and the games I care for are multi-platform, so Xbox does me just fine.
