I was sitting in class, no talking, not being disruptive or being a nuisance in any way. I had my earphones hanging from in side my shirt as I was listening to music earlier, when suddenly, my friend shouts out "Dan, are you listening to an I-Pod?". When he said this the teacher approached me and asked me to hand it over. I said "It's not turned on," to which she replied "I don't care, hand it over." (before you ask, yes I was mad.)

So I can now expect my mobile phone to be returned in 10 school days. I have agreed with the school rules so I am not dissing them, but the school clearly state in my journal: "Use of a mobile phone on the school premises is prohibited, if a student is seen using a mobile phone it may be confiscated for up to ten school days. A repeat offence may result in a three day suspension". So you see my argument huh?

So what do you think, should I have had my phone taken off me? After all, school is a place to learn and phones often disrupt the class when work is being done.
Or do you think it's okay once it's turned off. I mean what would you do in an emergency with no way of contacting someone?

Okay so vote on the poll and tell me your arguments for why it should/shouldn't be allowed.

Along as there not being used in lesson they shouldn't be banned,but if someone is using one in a lesson they should be confiscated. But 10 school days? That's a bit overreactive.

Why does everyone do this???? Just do the same thing to him even if he has no ear phones out, and do it every time he has his phone out, and have your in your school bag so the teacher/him cant catch you out :y:

One small question. Whe the teacher told you to hand it over did you have the ipod visible?? like in yor desk or in your hand??

No I didn't, it wasn't even on! BTW it was my phone, my friend just said it was an Ipod for some reason. :confused:

My school allows you to use your phone at lunch and in the 5 minutes in between classes. If you have it out during class, most of my teachers ask you to put it away the first time. The second time they take it. If you have an emergency, you can use the school phone in the classroom. While I think it's fair that you can't use a phone in class for the obvious reason that people will cheat and get distracted, I think iPods should be ok when you are working on an assignment.
