DEMENTED Deyan Deyanov tried to kill a man with a rock just months before he beheaded British grandmother Jennifer Mills-Westley, it emerged yesterday.

The maniac smashed security guard Fermin Suarez Perez, 45, in the face on the island of Tenerife. And police yesterday revealed Deyanov, 28, was on bail for that attack and had been arrested THREE times since January – but was freed to murder Jennifer, 60, in Los Cristianos last Friday.

Fermin said: “I’ve no doubt he meant to kill me. He hit me in the mouth with a rock, leaving three of my teeth dangling. I said, ‘What are yon doing you madman’. He then crouched down on all fours like an animal and ran off.”

Deyanov, from Ruse, Bulgaria, who has a three-year-old daughter, was arrested that day, January 4, but freed on bail after just five days.

He was arrested again on January 16 for punching a dog walker and on March 16 for smashing a window. The millionaire’s son did not report to court, and a warrant was issued three days before he killed Jennifer.

Yesterday the Mirror revealed Deyanov is obsessed with the film Predator, in which aliens decapitate humans, and has made a video in which he says: “I hate humans.” Fermin, who needed 14 stitches, said: “It’s unbelievable they let him out. If they had kept him in for treatment Jennifer would still be alive.”

Former Spanish soldier Fermin added: “He smoked lots of cannabis, heroin and crack cocaine. He was a time bomb waiting to go off.

“He used to follow women, trying to pick them up. Jennifer used to stroll along the promenade and I’m sure he would have seen her.”

Deyanov, who police warned in February was a danger to the public who shouldn't even be on the streets, is being held in a psychiatric unit. After decapitating Jennifer with a ham knife, he ran down the street with her head in his hands until he was wrestled to the ground.

A pathologist said that grandmother-of-five, Jennifer from Norwich, wouldn't have suffered. He said: “The victim loses consciousness and dies in a few seconds.” Jennifer’s daughter, accountant Sarah, is staying in Tenerife and the family last night praised Spanish police and the Foreign Office. “Without their support we don’t know how we’d have got through,” they said.
