I need to know how to get the first equation into shorter terms. So basically the last formula is the first formula in it's simplest form. But I need to know how to get it smaller..

Anything that's under a square root becomes unsqaured. So in the first problem h^2 and r^2 automatically become h and r. This also works in reverse for problems without square roots, so if you square root both sides they will lose their squares.
