I've recently been looking into this stuff after getting back into working out and it's pretty interesting, I've even cut these completely out of my diet due to the benefits I gain from not having them. Before I did this I had extreme sleep and fatigue problems and they've improved significantly.
Before I get into my fail writing and overall thread making skills you are now aware there's a TL; DR version at the bottom :lol:
Most people don't actually eat a lot of harmful additives, as they're mostly in processed foods and 'convenience' foods, e.g. frozen meals, fast food, junk food etc. But saving time making food really isn't worth the convenience with some of the effects of harmful additives.
Obviously additives are to overall 'improve' food (mostly just to preserve it's lifetime, helping the business, not the consumers) but they are used with no empathy with the health problems that they may cause. Obviously not all things used to preserve food and use as flavours are problematic, but there are a lot that have been proven to hinder health and wellbeing. I found an awesome list here

When you think about some of the stuff these harmful additives are being used for it's pretty pointless, for example the most obvious additives, food colourings, all it's there for is to make food different colours or more appealing. The worst part is certain colours often used are linked to causing ADHD type symptoms in normal children and making people with ADHD even worse.
Another example is glazing agents, all they're there for is to make food shiny/look better.
You wouldn't think they would be legal after the things they can possibly cause, but some additives have been linked to extremely harmful things.
For example;
Glutamates have been researched and it has been concluded they cause headaches, palpitations, dizziness, and even cancer. Almost all convenience foods contain this harmful preservative.
Sulfites are common food preservatives and can cause headaches, joint pain, heart palpitations, allergies, and cancer. Foods include fruit, dried fruit, jarred olives and peppers, corn syrup, cornstarch, wine vinegar, and wine. This along with sulphur is especially harmful for people with respiratory problems including asthma.
Propyl gallate may cause birth defects and damage the liver. This preservative is mostly found in meat products, vegetables packaged with sauce, pickles, vegetable shortening and oils, and even in chewing gum.
And also, would you really want to trust in preservatives when they have often been approved for human use then banned for human health risks, for example borin acid which was widely used but then banned due to extreme acidity.
I urge you all to try to cut out harmful additives from your diets, and see how your health and wellbeing improves. Just look on the label for stuff, they're legally obligated to show all things in the food/drink.

Doing so will make you feel a lot better, and you'll be a lot healthier, it's mostly stuff from fast food and heavily processed food and soft drinks. In all honesty the only stuff from it I used to have were stuff in soft drinks yet had sleeping problems, now I don't drink them and don't have sleeping problems. Try it out and see how it goes for you feggits.
