(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Okay, well, this is a thread bringing all the rules and how-dos on the site, into one big thread. For one, I know I am copying other peoples work. I understand that you might think I am doing this for the rep. points. I'm not. I just want to bring it into one thread inside of 5 threads, or more. So yeah. Happy.

How to Get more members on the site:

1. Next Gen Console Advertising, whether it be Playstations comment box or any other way of getting messages out to your friends, put the URL of nextgen update in your message, though not everyone may look at it, you will get some attention from it.

2.Forums, When visiting other forums, make sure to look at their advertising rules, if there is no rule that says you cant get the word out about this board then drop a line and let them know that we are 20k members strong and the most bad ass board there ever could be.

3.Logos Userbars signatures etc., If you are one of those graphics junkies that love doing things in photoshop and have your signatures on other boards go into your edit signature field and put

[*url=https://www.nextgenupdate.com]Signature code here[*/url]

that around your signature, like most people you probobly have clicked on a signature or image once or twice and landed at imageshack or photobucket, this code allows it so that when you click the image it re-directs you too NGU. Also instead of the url of the site you can put your referral redirect code.

4. Online gaming, do you play online games with people? go on teamspeak, ventrilo, xfire? Let them know that this website has resources beyond belief, with many perks that other sites cant offer.

5.Blogs, do you run a blog or visit blogs often? with blogs becoming more and more popular everyday leaving a url or a good writeup about this site on your blog would attract a hefty sum of members.

6.Instant messaging, myspace, facebook, hi5 etc. Do you have one? Post a link on their message people about it, at least one person will see it and be curious enough to visit.

7. Youtube, Vlogs etc. Do you have a youtube account, do you post videos of gameplay or do you just have a video blog, no matter what you do people look at your videos, let them know that this site is bad ass, even if your leaving comments on some of the members videos here then your still getting the word out.

8. Donate! donating might not get the word out but it contributes to the forums so much, it keeps it alive and gives you what you want here on the boards

How to give Rep:

the most new members don't know how to Rep,Thank or nominate a post, so i'm making this little tutorial.
all of these things will affect your Reputation. Thanks and nominate will give you 5 reputation points, the rep + button will only give you one.
there are different reputation images, the higher your reputation, the more little squares you get under your name. Dark green > Light Green > Gold > Star.
there are different skins, so i'll post a picture for every skin.

More Basic Info:

Posts: So what are posts? They are the messages and threads you post on this forum in any sections.

vBux: vBux is this forums money. With this money you can do a variety of things. For example, buy things such as Username Glows, Username Fonts, etc. You can donate some of them to other members, if you think they helped you or something. You can buy gifts for others too. Or you could just save up, by depositing those vBux to the forum Bank.

Bank: This forum has a bank, which works kind of a real life one. If you want to save up your vBux, you deposit as much money as you want to the bank, and that money will increase every month. You can withdraw as much of you money as you want at any time. You can find the bank when you click on the vBplaza link in the Navbar.

vBplaza: So what is vBplaza? Well, it is a place where you go to buy things I listed before (Username glows, Fonts and other stuff...) Don't forget, you buy those things with vBux.

vBplaza Menu: As you can see when you click on the vBplaza on the Navbar, there are some other things listed under the vBplaza Main. For example: Donate, Bank, Give gifts, Give ribbons, Lottery... Those things are easy to understand how to work, so just check them out whenever you can.

NavBar: NavBar is the bar which has links on it like: vBplaza, Forum Rules, Members List, Arcade, etc. Check all of them out whenever you want. But please go to the Rules section first.

Donation: Here, you are able to donate real $ to Outsider, to help this site keep running, since Outsider has to pay a $100 every month. To see more info about this and the benefits you get by donating go to the thread in the Site Announcements section. (I think that's where the the thread is)

Arcade: There, you can play some basic games like Snake or Tetris when you are bored

vBExperience: This shows all the members and and their forum ranks, starting for the highest rank (Outsider) and ending with the lowest one.

User CP: Ok, I'll try to explain this thoroughly.
The first link you see on the left (the user cp bar) is "Edit You Details" link. If you click on it, you are able to change your personal information, for example:

You also can use one of the "Pre-Defined" avatars, but I'm not sure if this is for Donators only or not.

Here you can post your avatars or some text, which will be displayed under your post, every time you post something.

Yeah the last 2 are basically the same, but most of you get the point.
To change your skin, its at the bottom, bottom left of every page im pretty sure, found here.
You must login or register to view this content.

So once again, report posts for threads that you've seen posted already, double posts, threads that have been answered. Maybe your own thread or post that you may have messed up on, or just want closed. Or if you see spam, report it, or yet more reasons, if you see any hate, flaming ripping or what not in the thread.

Okay now onto the shoutbox. To access the shoutbox, you must have 10+ posts, it is located at the top of the main page, and cannot, and will not move from page to page while you post. Just make 2 tabs to post and talk to people.
Remember not to advertise other websites in the shoutbox, yes youtube videos, and streaming websites, are allowed (pretty sure on those lol)
NO PORN.
Also do not use the bbcode to say something, and bring the user to a different website
[url=www.google.com]Click here for 3 nightfire glitches!!![/url]
No, thats dumb, and you could get a warning and/or infraction.
Also with those tinyurl things. I think if a mod sees them it should be an auto shoutbox ban. Thats just getting rediculas*.
Also, rick rolls, okay once or twice its funny, 3 times, eh, if someone tells you to stop, stop, you go on, i think it should be an infraction or something.
Also back to advertising, its okay to put links to threads that you have made, but come on, not 10 times in 10min. Put it once or twice you on NGU, then stop. Once you come on again at a later time, sure, put the link ONCE again. Not 5 more times in a row.

You must login or register to view this content.
Also as stated in the rules, don't double post just edit it.

(looks the same in all skins.)
ALSO, read the rules : You must login or register to view this content.

Infractions:

Disputing an infraction

1. Go to the forum rules and check if your post was violating ANY of the rules for which you were given an infraction for.

2. If your post was violating any of the rules then there is no point in trying to dispute. However if you think the amount of points in the infraction given was too large for the mistake you made you can ask for a reprieve(read below for more information)

3. If your post was not violating any of the rules then please post why your infraction should be reversed in a clean matter with no flaming, if you flame your dispute will be ignored and your infraction will stay.

4. Staff will not immediately see the dispute so please be patient about the matter and if you followed all the steps given above the staff will consider pardoning the infraction.

Reprieve

In an instance where you feel you did make a mistake but the infraction amount was too large, consider applying for a reprieve. In a reprieve only possible applicants are those who received an infraction larger then the minimum (can't be a warning and must be higher then a 1 point infraction). The same as disputing an infraction completely, you must post in the thread that was automated into this section and post a clean report on why you should be given a reprieve without any flaming. Once again, any posts with flaming will be ignored, removed, and considered on giving an infraction for.

Posting

Only those who received the infraction and staff are aloud to post in the section. Posts saying such things as "This infraction was needed", "He deserved the infraction", etc. will be considered as +postcount posts, deleted, and given an infraction to.

Moderating for Dummies: Member Edition

I. What is a Moderator?
II. Maturity
III. Making an Application
IV. Grammar
V. Bias

Chapter One: What is a Moderator?

mod·er·a·tor
1: one who arbitrates : mediator
2: one who presides over an assembly, meeting, or discussion: as a: the presiding officer of a Presbyterian governing body b: the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting c: the chairman of a discussion group
3: a substance (as graphite) used for slowing neutrons in a nuclear reactor

This guidebook will teach you how to be moderator for a forum or any other popular social websites.
A more specified definition of a moderator for a forum could be defined as:
Someone who controls the content displayed by other users.

A moderator for a forum is simply a more powerful member who, as stated above, controls the content. What they can do is, but not limited to:
Deleting messages, changing signatures, changing avatars, editing their profile, closing topics, making announcements, changing topic names, moving topics, stickying topics (making them above all others), and merge threads.

There are many types of moderators but to keep this a little shorter I'll describe the different moderators and their abilities and duties.

First of I'll describe the most simple, yet efficient, moderator. And that is, a moderator. Moderating one or more forums but not all. Their task is simple, keep the forums clean and keep members in line.

The other type is a Super(Global) Moderator. They moderate nearly all aspects of public communication displayed by other users. They need to keep the members in line and punish them for any bad activity. Such as, but not limited to, flamming other members, spamming, advertising, double posting, or anything else that is set by the forums Administrator/Staff.
Chapter Two: Maturity

ma·tu·ri·ty
1: the quality or state of being mature ; especially : full development
2: termination of the period that an obligation has to run

Maturity is possibly the most important part of becoming a moderator. Without maturity your chances are gone. When moderating a forum you need to be a model member to others to show them the proper way to conduct activity on the forum. The administrator on a forum knows who is mature and who is not. They know who to pick by the actions and things that a member says, therefore, without maturity its hard to be chosen.
With all that being said, it's alright to have some fun, occasionally mess with a person as long as everyone is ok with it. You express humor, make funny posts, etc. as long as it's reasonable. You must remember, the main point of a forum is for information and giving help, but it can also be used as a social area for people to have some fun.
Chapter Three: Making an Application

Sometimes on a forum the administrator(s) will announce that they are looking for a moderator for some forums and they require an application. This is usually a simple application, NOT A RESUME! You follow the guidelines and if you have some experience on a popular forum or somewhere where it may make a difference, note the forum(s) you've had experience on. Usually forum administrators will not require anything long because they know they'll receive an excessive amount of applications from inexperienced and unqualified applicants.

Just a few hints, make yourself look better than the guy before you. Make your profile look nice as well, I don't think many administrators want to see a guy apply for a moderator position on their forum with a pentagram avatar and a satan worshiping signature. That'd freak me out a bit at least. Good luck and I hope the admins make the right choice.
Chapter Four: Grammar

gram·mar
1 a: the study of the classes of words, their inflections, and their functions and relations in the sentence. b: a study of what is to be preferred and what avoided in inflection and syntax
2 a: the characteristic system of inflections and syntax of a language b: a system of rules that defines the grammatical structure of a language
3 a: a grammar textbook b: speech or writing evaluated according to its conformity to grammatical rules
4: the principles or rules of an art, science, or technique <a grammar of the theater> ; also : a set of such principles or rules

Along with maturity, your grammar and the way you type may be the most important action that you do. It's can separate you from being a n00b to a sophisticated, helpful, and educated member. On most forums using leet (1337) talk is looked down upon and very annoying for other people to read. Seeing a post such as, 'omg howd did u do tat?' or 'hii m new ad me guyz!1!1', is a true turn off when reading.

If you haven't noticed by now, this guidebook has been composed of (for the most part) excellent grammar, and as I would hope, word choice as well. Not only does it look nice and professional, it gets your point across much better. People understand you easier and know what you want.
Chapter Five: Bias

bi⋅as
3 a: bent , tendency b: an inclination of temperament or outlook ; especially : a personal and sometimes unreasoned judgment : prejudice c: an instance of such prejudice d (1): deviation of the expected value of a statistical estimate from the quantity it estimates (2): systematic error introduced into sampling or testing by selecting or encouraging one outcome or answer over others

Being biased towards anything sets a bad example for other members. This includes rating graphics, choosing sides unfairly in a fight, being a console fanboy (or any kind of fanboy), hating on other members because "you don't like them", and especially, racism (we don't really get too much of that).

Not only do these degrade your chances of being a moderator, they make you look like an idiot. Bias is when your feelings get in the way, and make you say things based on what you want to hear, and not what is actually true. To become a mod, you must try to refrain from these feelings, even if it means saying something you don't particularly like.

Qualifications on Being a Moderator

Must be of age 15 or higher. (Yes you must be above 15, and that's a very low minimum. Any below, I'm sorry but you just won't make the cut unfortunately. Sorry for something you can not control.)
Must post useful information such as new information, new releases, and large thread discussions. (Examples: Reviews, updates, etc)
Must type in good grammar (This is huge, if you don't type with good grammar, you have 0% chance.)
Must be a donator (Pretty Simple)
Must be on the site for over 2 months. (Pretty Simple)
Digg Topics! (Digg topics, and you'll have a mush better chance.)

Well, I give the credit to them. In the past I have made (in my eyes) good threads on my own. This is just putting all those good ideas into 1 thread.

"Okay, well, this is a thread bringing all the rules and how-dos on the site, into one big thread. For one, I know I am copying other peoples work. I understand that you might think I am doing this for the rep. points. I'm not. I just want to bring it into one thread inside of 5 threads, or more. So yeah. ."

I said that in the start of the thread. I can feel how people are affected. But hell. The people who made the good stuff in this big thread, are not even on the site anymore. So the credit really goes to no one now.
But whatever, just be nice I guess Winky Winky.
