im sure if you put it with your checked luggage, but to make sure security doesnt take it I would ship it.

I went on a trip and a kid brought back a hunting knife. He just packed it in a special non-threatening way or something like that.

Depends on how strict the importation laws/rules of the specific country you're trying to bring this "sword" of yours into.
A metal sword is classified as a weapon.
