Now, first off I would like to point out there are peer reviewed papers on both sides, both with much scientific detail involved.

We can (individually) make a differance, and by our example begin to change others arround us.

I think with a little time, patience and humility we can all learn a little something and hopefully have an interesting discussion and debate. NGU while largely teenagers isn't actually as immature as many, including myself, make out. In fact if anything NGU if more maliable because immature adults are far too arrogant and stubborn to grow up, but immature teens still stand a chance.

As much as it annoys me to see such bullshit being posted by schoolkids who haven't even learned the basics of the subjects they're critiquing, at the very least they're discussing it. With adults certain subjects are just off bounds, and the concept of teaching basic logic or the scientific method to a 30 year old who's a complete nutcase is a lot harder to swallow than the same job on a 15 year old.

What subjects am I talking about. Well it's the same bullshit you get in every debate section on every forum. There's the obligatory religion thread, which is pointless because all modern religions are provably wrong, (yes I mean that), and the concept of God is infantile at best. Then there's the stupid political threads. Nothing interesting mind you like "the practical applications of the principles of anarcho-capitalism", no nothing that simple, or "a comparative analysis of the eerie similarities between anarcho-capitalistic barter systems and socialist communistic societies if examined in the small scale". No. Both of those would be thought provoking, (yes, I've been tempted to write both topics), instead we get "Is Obama's really American" and "Gay Marriage: Yes or No", as is these weren't so utterly benal they put me to sleep...

...eventually of course you get the insanity articles. There's always someone claiming the 9/11 attacks where inside jobs (yes we already have a wacko doing that on NGU). Someone claiming that the moon landing was faked (any takers, this position is still open). Or if you've got a truly golden wacko's you'll have raeliens with ufology tacked on. It's always hilarious when you've got someone who honestly believes the plot of the TV show "V" is actually real.

Then lastly you've got the teenage girl demographic. You know the wiccan phase. Girls especially go though it, but guys can too, when they're between 14 and 19 and it's a dark time where they start believing in any old bullshit like crystal healing, tarrot cards, astrology, psychics and pretty much anything else you can name that would be considered "new age". Basically they're like the raeliens/ufology crowd only instead of believing the plot to "V" or "X-Files" is real, they believe "Charmed" or "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" is real... it'd be sad if it wasn't so pathetic.

The most irritating debates for me though are the anti-science crowd. You know, the ones who parade their own stupidy like a badge of honour and talk as though they know what the hell they're talking about. This would include Creationists, Global Warming deniers (this very thread), people who spread the nonsense that vaccinations cause autism (they don't, if you disagree with me, you're wrong), people pushing "alternative medicine", the Video Games cause violence crowd. Basically any group who will outright ignore or even make up scientific papers to further their agenda.

When it comes to this discussion, I'm glad to say I seem to have discouraged the Global Warming deniers from speaking, which is good, it kept this debate reasonable and sensible, but it also killed it dead. Why? Because no-one cares, or is informed enough to make any observations about the issue or to discuss it in any depth, which is a major pity. I for example am anti-recycling. Considering I'm well aware of Global Warming and support environmentalism in the long run, I am anti-recycling because I see it for what it is, a massive waste of time and money making scam, and I can prove it too. It's something I think people could discuss... for example, "if recycling is so ineffective, how should we support a cleaner environment?", it's a good question worth pondering, but people don't seem to want that, and it's a shame.

Still, I'm glad you've enjoyed the debate. I hope to have many more on here... hopefully one or two of them will be taxing for my mind, rather than a game of smack the moron which online debates frequently are, but all in all, I'll take what I can get.
