(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This is one of my all-time favorite stories ever to be turned into a film. It was on last night so I watched it, and I thought I'd suggest it here as there may be other that will like it. It's called "Johnny Got His Gun"

The story is about Joe Bonham (Bottoms), a young American soldier hit by an artillery shell on the last day of World War I, lies in a hospital bed. He is a quadruple amputee who has also lost his eyes, ears, mouth and nose. He remains conscious and able to reason, however, rendering him a prisoner in his own body. As he drifts between reality and fantasy, he remembers his old life with his family and girlfriend (Kathy Fields). He also forms a bond, of sorts, with a young nurse (Diane Varsi) who senses his plight.

This is the story that inspired the Metallica song "One". Clips of this 1971 movie can be seen in the music video of "One" as well. Of course, this is how I found out about the movie after 'And Justice for All' came out, and ever since I love watching this movie. It is such a gripping and moving portrayal of the agony and struggle for sanity that this guy goes through.

It was released on DVD recently, search for it. You'll love it.
