If christians could practice tolerance and understanding of the other religions the perhaps that saying would not be so offensive. Yet we are suppose to be a nation not goverened by religion but by common sense, and an eye for what is correct for all. When we as a nation can be manipulated by the few, who only want their way, it destroys what this country was founded on, freedom. We are a nation of thinkers, adventurers, tinkers, inventors, etc. We should not be defined by one group, but be defined as a whole.

My rant is over, thnak you for not sleeping. :P

Our nation is a secular nation, we have people of diverse backgrounds, races and beliefs. Unless there is a state church, there is no reason to associate national identity with religion. Associating our nation with God is bullshit

/facepalm

1. It isn't just atheists who want separation of church and state
2. It goes against the constitution

We didn't come from that! We came seeking religious freedom, to an extent.

Honestly, what the hell do you call this?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The first amendment to the US constitution!

That is idiotic. If the majority of the US were into sacrificing their children does it make it right even though its illegal, absolutely not!

Maybe we should change it to "In Reason we Trust" :p

Simply put,
our nation was built upon it. Taking it out of our nation is taking the structural beams out of a skyscraper.

Plus, our Constitution is unchangeable.
Are you going to take God out of that too?

"You have the freedom to practice whatever religion you want... As long as it's Christianity"

Our nation was NOT built upon Christianity, but many Christians seem to think it was. While I agree removing the phrase would cause chaos, the problem wouldn't be that God is "the structural beams" of a skyscraper, the problem would be the Christian zealots who would undoubtedly rip the beams out themselves if God isn't endorsed by the government. Christianity gets too much special treatment.

You're right, the Constitution is unchangeable.

Where do people get the idea that God is mentioned in the Constitution?

Off the top of your head, how many of the current presidential candidates do you know (what are their names), please don't look them up before you answer, as that would defeat my point.
