Introduction

Okay well I know many of you don't know how to play poker and since we now have poker on NGU it's time to learn. It's really not hard at all just take a read through this and by the end you should know at least the basics. So basically a deck of cards has a total of 52 cards, it has the Ace, Jack, Queen, King, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and there are four suits of each card Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds. As shown here: You must login or register to view this content. the Spade is on the top left and the Heart is on the top right the Club is on the bottom right and the Diamond is on the bottom left. In case your one of those non-premium :n00b:s then you should see right below the NGU logo the poker button shown here: You must login or register to view this content.

Terms

So basically for you to even understand me explain poker you will need to know a few words first.

All in: Having bet all the chips in your current hand.

Bluffing: Raising to large amounts when you have small chance or no chance or winning.

Buy in: The minimum required amount of chips that must be "bought" to become involved in a game.

Call: To call is to match a bet or match a raise.

Check: If no one has yet opened the betting round, a player may pass or check, which is equivalent to calling the current bet of zero.

Fold: To fold is to discard one's hand and forfeit interest in the current pot.

Raise: To raise is to increase the size of the bet required to stay in the pot.

Hands

List of card from least to greatest:

Ace = 1
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six
Seven
Eight
Nine
Ten
Jack = 11
Queen
King
Ace

That is pretty much it for hands, I will put the definitions of all the hands in the spoiler in case you want to look at them.

Straight Flush: A straight flush is a hand that contains five cards in sequence, all of the same suit, such as A♣ 2♣ 3♣ 4♣ 5♣(a hand that meets the requirement of both a straight and a flush).

Four of a Kind: Four of a kind, also known as quads, is a poker hand such as 9♣ 9♠ 9♦ 9♥

Full House: A full house, also known as a full boat, is a hand such as 3♣ 3♠ 3♦ 6♣ 6♥, that contains three matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another rank.

Flush: A flush is a poker hand such as Q♣ 10♣ 7♣ 6♣ 4♣, where all five cards are of the same suit, but not in sequence.

Straight: A straight is a poker hand such as Q♣ J♠ 10♠ 9♥ 8♥, that contains five cards of sequential rank in at least two different suits.

Three of a Kind: Three of a kind, also called trips or a set, is a poker hand such as 2♦ 2♠ 2♣ that contains three cards of the same rank.

One Pair: A poker hand such as 4♣ 4♠, that contains two cards of the same rank.

Two Pair: A poker hand such as J♥ J♣ 4♣ 4♠, that contains two cards of the same rank and two other matching cards but that are not the same rank as the first pair.

High Card: A high-card or no-pair hand is a poker hand such as K♥ J♥ 8♣ 7♦ 4♠, made of any five cards not meeting any of the above requirements.

Blinds

Based on the limits, the player to the left of the dealer's button (the small blind) and the player two to the left of the button (the big blind) are required to put up mandatory bets before the cards are dealt. These blinds count toward your total investment toward the first round of betting. So if the pot isn't raised pre-flop, the small blind will only have to put in another half a bet to call. Likewise, the big blind won't have to put anything more in the pot, although the big will have the ability to raise his own blind. In an un-raised pre-flop pot, this is referred to as having the option.

The amount that is put out depends on the limit. In fixed limit poker, the big blind puts up a bet equal to the small limit. The small blind puts up half that amount. So if the limit is $5/$10, the big blind is $5 and the small blind is $2.50. This is not like a no limit or pot limit poker game. In a $5/$10 no limit hold'em game, the small blind would be $5 and the big blind would be $10.

Tips

- Never chase anything to far, for example if you have 5k in the bank and your one away from a flush and the last card is about to get pulled and some guy raises it to 3k you might not want to go with it.

- Always remember good players fold often, you can't get rich going all-in everytime.

- Always look at other possibilities before you raise very high, for example if you get pocket 5's and a 5 comes up and you have a three of a kind don't just raise it. Because if some guy has a three of a kind of 9's then he's going to beat you so look at the other chances.

- Your turn is timed so you need to have a pretty good idea what your going to do before it's actually your turn.

- Never tell other members what cards you have!
