(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});AMD may have dropped out of the gigahertz race with Intel to focus on the graphics processing of its APUs, but it can still put on a good show when it wants to. The company brought in a pair of pro overclockers to hype up its new FX processor, an octo-core monster built for desktops. Liquid nitrogen cooling brought the FX processor clock speed up to an unbelievable 8GHz, but it was the addition of liquid helium that helped them crack 8.4GHz.
The FX processor hit 8.429Ghz, breaking the previous Guiness World Record of 8.308GHz. Never mind stability or actual usability--the winning chip was hand-picked for its ability to handle high voltages.
