This situation would be easy to discuss, but when one is in the actual scenario, it would be difficult to decide the following course of action...Personally, I would see no issue behind anyone deciding to defend themselves in the situation you described; but I would not find it ethical to shoot (or use whatever defensive measure) without properly warning the offenders or without the assurance that the offenders have the intent to cause harm. Should self-defense be charged as murder? In some cases, it should, in others it shouldn't. Just as the concept of Freedom of Press/Speech is often abused and misconstrued, there are cases in which the circumstances of an action being considered self-defense are manipulated towards the
supposed victim's favor. I can imagine a case in which one may justify killing another under the supposition that their victim may have been contemplating killing them first. Which is sort of a "Do unto others before they do unto you" situation, I guess.
Whenever you are accused of murder, always prepare a reasonable and permissible explanation to justify your action.
