I found those coins in my basement, are those of any value ? I mean the Euro money is not valid in england so could I use these in London ?

What are the Shillings ? they seem old ?

What's the difference beween all those coins ? Dollars and cents are so much easier

Can’t trickshot me!
The shilling coins are from the pre-decimal currency era, before the UK adopted the current system in 1971, but the coins themselves are at least 45 years old as the last ones were minted in 1966 (when the decision to adopt the decimal currency was ratified). However, one and two shilling coins were still in circulation until the early 90's as legal tender substitutions of 5p and 10p coins until they were reduced in size. Mainly because of that late demonitisation, the coins aren't antiques....... you'll be lucky to get £1 for each coin from a collector.

I wouldn't bother exchanging them for euros, as the previous poster said the exchange rate from £ to € is rather crap right now!

Thank you for that coin history ! So shillings are the encestors of today's pounds and pence, the dates on those coins are 1950, they must have been used by my grand parents :p

I'll wait a few months for the exchange then, or maybe I'll go to London for a weekend Smile

Might be collectible then.

Personally, I would love to have at least 1 coin from every country in the world. Smile

That's just me.

And when I was younger I used to have metal detecting as a hobby, so I found coins from 300 before JC to nowadays coins, that's about 2300 years of coin history :p

Epic, I started collecting as well when I was younger. I used to have coins from about 1800-1930's from decent to excellent condition. My grandma helped me out, when she died though my greedy aunt took that collection and sold it to make herself some cash. There went about 8 years of my childhood looking down onto the coins and adding what I found. We even had some original gold or silver coins.

It's fun really, just sucks that my whole collection was taken from me. :(

Sorry to hear that :(
I still have my collection but since I never had any special thing to put the coins in, most of them are lost in my room :/

My collection was worth about 1-1.5k, my grandma, some of my grandmas friends contributed and helped put it together. We had a coin that had a mistake on it where it was printed the same on each side, I think it was a nickel or something but pretty damn cool.

Ehh, if I ever got enough money I would start collecting again.
