The shilling coins are from the pre-decimal currency era, before the UK adopted the current system in 1971, but the coins themselves are at least 45 years old as the last ones were minted in 1966 (when the decision to adopt the decimal currency was ratified). However, one and two shilling coins were still in circulation until the early 90's as legal tender substitutions of 5p and 10p coins until they were reduced in size. Mainly because of that late demonitisation, the coins aren't antiques....... you'll be lucky to get £1 for each coin from a collector.
I wouldn't bother exchanging them for euros, as the previous poster said the exchange rate from £ to € is rather crap right now!
Thank you for that coin history ! So shillings are the encestors of today's pounds and pence, the dates on those coins are 1950, they must have been used by my grand parents :p
I'll wait a few months for the exchange then, or maybe I'll go to London for a weekend
